Hi,
During my first GMAT attempt i got 660 (Q49V31), second attempt was even worse (Q47V31), despite the fact that i focused on the V between these two attempts.
My goal is 700-710, so i'd like to improve V from current 31 to at least 39 points (need to have some room for Q score fluctuations).
The problem is - i cannot spot exact weak areas in my V, and there's no competent tutors in my city to help identify my problematic areas and create "useful" study plan: right now i feel like i'm doing SCs/CRs randomly here and there, but not focusing precisely on what needs to be improved.
I have used Magoosh and some old OG/MGMAT, but during that time i didn't have an error log, so i'm kinda lost where to start from now...
So i would really appreciate if someone could help me with the answers for the following questions:
1. During my exams, i got 14 or so incorrect V-answers, evenly spread among SC/RC/CR. Now I would like to focus on the SC first because:
- it will improve my score itself;
- it will greatly reduce the time spent on SC -> i will have more time on CR (i'm doing CR pretty well when spend slightly more time);
2. Is there any online source/test with detailed diagnostic test that will show exact gaps in my SC? For example, Magoosh has "Subject" column in its Review, but it is pretty high-level (8 types of SCs only) - i would like something more detailed so i can setup my study plan;
3. Should i try additional resource (for example, E-GMAT - it seems that the E-GMAT's explanation of grammar is more understandable for the non-native speakers than other sources' materials) and finally create an error log, or doing Magoosh/OG/MGMAT again with an error log should be enough?
4. Is there any specific set of skills tested in SC/CR for the scores V31 to 39? For example, as far as i understood, CR bold-questions appear at ~V35+ only - is that true? Or they appear in the higher scores and i shouldn't be bothered mastering them and instead focus on other things?
5. I know that the GMAT score calculation is a complex thing, but what is the approximate difficulty level of the Gmatclub's topics that corresponds to the V39? 55%/65%/75%?

Hi worship,
First off, a 660/Q49 is a strong score (it's right around the 80th percentile overall), so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Thus, your 2 Official Scores show that you essentially performed the SAME both times you took the Exam (about 650 +/- a couple of Scaled Score points). To significantly improve on these Scores, you're going to have to make some significant adjustments to how you "see" (and respond to) the Exam.
Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:
Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
Goals:
3) What is your goal score?
4) When are you planning to retake the GMAT?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
Have you purchased the Enhanced Score Report for either of your Official GMATs? While the ESR doesn't provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what you should work on to score higher. If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Hi and thanks for your reply!
It's not only about getting higher score to have higher approval chances, but also about improving my verbal: i don't think i should ever apply to the business school if i can't handle Verbal
1) For about 3-4 months, but inconsistently (work, children);
2) Mostly Magoosh, skimmed OG/Mgmat;
3) 700;
4) When i am ready - no time limit, but it would be good to retake in 1 month. I have also improved slightly since the last exam, and score 690-730 on my mock tests;
5) Hopefully - mid-summer;
6) Before posting my crazy Business Schools list, i would like to point out that my background is MUCH better than the GMAT score:
- around 10years of WE in retail banking/e-commerce, 8 of them in the #1 retail bank in my country;
- managing positions for 7 years (current position - executive director/head of business);
- lots of extracurricular activities: playing drums in the local band, won bronze-medal in powerlifting competitions, etc;
- i will have strong recommendations: 1) VERY successful HBS alumni (or even 2); 2) VERY successful HEC Paris alumni; 3) Managing Director from the #2-3 retail bank in my country;
There's one weak point, though: bachelor degree from an unknown local university, but i hope to cover this with the points above.
I have clear goals: either hi-tech retail banking/e-commerce, or consulting in the same area - generally, continue to improve in the area i am currently working in.
Countries priority post-MBA: US > Europe > return to my country.
So the list of the business schools:
1) MIT Sloan Fellows - first priority taking my background into account, but the problem is my profile is somewhere between MBA and the requirements for the Sloan programs, so probably will switch to regular MBA program;
2) HBS;
3) Booth;
4) Tuck;

5) INSEAD;
6) LBS (Sloan Fellows would be good, but the requirements are too extreme);
7) Cambridge Judge.
