Hi!

I need help in how to proceed with my verbal studies, I started studying 4 weeks ago, 3 week ago I did a MGMAT prep exam and scored 640 (Q44, V33), and my weakest area wa SC and CR with a 29% and 40% accuracy respectively in each section and 92% accuracy in RC, therefore, in order to bump my score I decided to focus my studies in SC and CR.

Today I just did another MGMAT prep test and scored 570 (Q38, V30) as for right now I am not concerned with quant I wanted to focus only on verbal first, I didn't even put that much effort in the quant section (I even went to the bathroom quickly while the quant section was running). After studying intensively for 3 weeks verbal (20 hours a week) I only managed to lower 3 points, I have been studying from the MGMAT strategy guides, I only improved marginally in SC and CR (went from 28% to 43% in SC and 40% to 50%) but SC went from 92% to 60%.

My tentative exam date is July 15, I am aiming for a 720+ score, therefore;
  • What recommendation would you give me?
  • Is it real to improve to 720+ in the next 2 months?
  • Should I focus the next few weeks in verbal and then quant or should I start studying both section at the same time?

Thanks in advanced for for your time and comments on my problem!
Martin

Hi MRE2510,

For verbal especially for CR and SC, I would highly encourage you to consider e-gmat verbal online or the e-gmat verbal live course. They are both amazing courses especially designed for non-natives. They offer almost 25% of their courses for free so you can try out their free trial to decide which one you want to go for. Plus the e-gmat Scholaranium which is included in both the courses is one of the best verbal practice tools in the market. You can easily track your progress in that you can identify your strengths and analyze and improve on your weak areas.

Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practise tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that.

I would also encourage you to purchase the GMATPREP QP 1 for some great additional practice. Here is a link that will help you with your decision.

Hope this helps. All the best.

Hi Martin, just wanted to highlight that V33 is 69th percentile, while Q44 is 52nd percentile. So, relatively speaking, your performance in Verbal was better than that in Quant.

So, I would suggest you should focus on both Quant and Verbal, to realize your target score.

In the beginning, we recommend studying verbal and quant separately.

Then, once you are you seeing results, then start studying them together.

During your SC studies, we encourage you to follow along expert video explanations to guide you in your thought process.
