Hello all,
I have written GMAT last week and I got 600 pts. I am okay with Quantitative, however there is still potential in Verbal.
My main problem is time rather than the content, for both parts I needed to guess last 6-7 questions. This is horrible and I could not have improved this. On each CATs, the time issue was is the same. I lose too much time especially reading passage; well also CR and tough SC questions where the answer choices are too close to each other make me spend considerable time.
I am getting quite hopeless for my problem with time pace :/ don't know how to improve or what strategy I should implement during the exam.
I have done so far:
- Studied SC Guide by Manhattan,
- Solved OG'18, though 5 months ago,
- Solved GMAT Official Prep's free-90 practice questions,
- GMAT Official Prep CATs from 1 to 4,
- Economist's and Veritas' free-CATs.
My target is +680 and I have to re-take GMAT in a month.
What additional materials I should work with? Shall I go over OG '19? And would solving the CATs, I already took, again be helpful?
I appreciate any suggestions regarding strategy.

Hi faltan,
Between the Quant and Verbal sections, there are only 67 total questions, so if you have to guess on 12-14 of those questions (approximately 20% of the Test) at the end of the sections because you are low on time, then there will be a limit to how high you can score. Pacing problems do NOT exist on their own - they are the results of OTHER problems. To hit your Goal Score, you will have to learn and practice the proper Tactics - and that training will likely take at least another 2 months of consistent, guided study.
Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:
Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs/mocks (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
3) What were the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores on your Official GMAT?
Goals:
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
5) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. Looking at your current study routine, it appears that your prep is mostly centered on doing practice questions and CATs, and as a result, you have not fully developed your GMAT verbal skills. Thus, I am not surprised that you are suffering from timing issues. Although you don’t believe you have issues with the content, if that were true, you’d be able to quickly answer questions.
While engaging in practice is a necessary part of improving your GMAT skills, such practice is only beneficial after you have thoroughly studied the topics on which those questions are based. Thus, moving forward, consider adjusting your study plan such that it allows for linear learning. Specifically, consider using a resource that allows you FIRST to learn the concepts and strategies related to GMAT verbal and SECOND to practice with a large number of realistic questions. Once you improve your verbal skills, better timing will follow.
