Hi PavanChebolu,
The scoring algorithm on the Official GMAT is far more complicated than most people realize. Since that algorithm is proprietary, no GMAT company has an exact match for it, thus CAT scores can vary a bit based on the 'biases' involved in their respective designs. The most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC, but the CATs from Kaplan,
MGMAT and Veritas are all 'close enough' to the real thing that they will provide you with a relatively realistic score assessment (assuming that you use the CAT correctly).
Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:
Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
I started my preparation on january 2019.
2) What study materials have you used so far?
OG 11, OG17, OG 16,
Manhattan gmat for SC, CR bible, some of challenging questions of SC and CR from gmat club.
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
I took my first diagnostic test in Veritas(January) and scored 430. After vigorous study I took the second diagnostic test on jan 20 and i scored 540. Main challenge I am facing is with verbal and mainly CR and RC. To see some improvement in quants I concentrated more on quant and took one more test the next week, i scored 570 with the similar verbal score and 3 point improvement in quant.
From the start of feb I concentrated more on CR and took my 4th Veritas Prep I scored 620 with improvement in verbal from 19 to 31. I was happy with the score. But serious problem lies in timing of RC and number of correct answers in RC. Then for a change I took kaplan diagnostic test and scored 660 with verbal 35 but the score in SC and CR is good and RC I got 4/14 questions correct. There are more RC questions than expected. Quant I was always in the range of 45 to 48 but I want to score 50 in quant.
I would be really happy if you could tell some tips on RC. I was lacking in timing with RC, taking beyond 8 min and also understanding of the passage. This week I concentrated more on RC and took the test but I couldn’t see any improvement in score in RC.
Goals:
4) What is your goal score?
My goal score is around 730.
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
In the mid of March.
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
This year
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
Didn’t think of any but top b schools
Many thanks for your reply
