Hello amysong ... welcome to the community.

I wouldnot cancel the score. A definite 'NO' .

First of all , 670 is not a bad score.
In ur next attempt if you improve... good .... it shows your progress
If you score below 670, cancel the 2nd one and try again ... for obvious reasons.
Remember , B-schools donot penalize for multiple attempts. Moreover, they generally consider the highest overall score.

Hope this helps !!

To GMAT Experts:

I just took my first exam yesterday, and I am debating whether I should cancel or keep my score.

I accepted my score (670/ V34, Q48, IR7) at the test center on the test day, mainly because I was happy with my IR score and wanted to get my AWA score as well. I was originally going to cancel any score below 690, which was average of my two mock tests, but 670 seemed acceptable with IR 7. Regardless, overall score is way below my target score of 730+, so I plan to retake within 1~2 months.

My question: would it be worth keeping the score (below target score) for IR and AWA?

The reason I am debating is because I am afraid if having 670 on the record will leave any negative impression on admission committee (say, M7), even if my scores show an improving trend. For example, is there any difference in how admissions think of a score record of 670-710-750 or 700-730-750?

Reading from some forum posts, I figure there should not be much difference, but I would still appreciate some thoughts! Thank you!
670 is a good score. Keep it. That "improving trend" you mentioned is actually a nice thing to show your target schools.

Even if your score doesn't change much, taking the GMAT again still sends a good "signal". A higher score on the second attempt would, of course, be the best outcome.

Hi amysong,

If you are concerned about admissions seeing a lower score on your record (assuming you eventually hit a 730), then just cancel your score. If you end up needing the score later, you can always reinstate it.

That said, do you need advice on how to move forward with your retake?

Also, you may find it helpful to read this article about how to score a 700+ on the GMAT

Hi amysong,

670 is not a bad score. But, if you feel you can do better you should definitely give GMAT a try again. You can cancel the score now. Even if you need to access this score later, you can reinstate it. Learn more about cancelling and reinstating your GMAT score.

If you need any help in planning your retake feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] or PM me, referencing this post.
