The new gmat online score is not included in traditional score reports and vice versa so your gmat on-line score would not show up if you retook the GMAT... at least for the upcoming application season and likely forever.

The GMAT online thing is a completely separate animal from the regular GMAT.

I'm planning on applying 3-4 years from now (residency is 3 years). But I won't have time during residency to study, and i'm right near my goal now.

So you're saying that if I took the GMAT online and bombed it, I wouldn't be able to void it, but I would have the option to not send it to bschools and only send for example my 690? Would they even know I took it if I didn't want them to?

Correct. Schools would potentially never know that you took the test when things go back to normal. There appears to be little downside to giving it a shot based on the latest information.

Hi believeinray,

I agree with bb. Since you have the choice to send or not send your online GMAT scores to schools, you really have nothing to lose by taking it. Thus, I’d give it a shot.
