Hi guys,
I have given gmat three times in the past few months and I am failing to understand why my scores are so low.
Please find below my mock results from the official gmat prep for your reference.
Mock 1: 650
Mock 2: 670
Mock 3: 680
Mock 4: 720
Mock 5: 690
However, my official gmat scores have been following:
GMAT 1: 590
GMAT 2: 610
GMAT 3: 530
I am shocked to see my results and have practiced from official guides and questions from gmat club as well. I don't understand why the steep fall in my results. Have taken the mock in the same environment as the official exam.
Have scheduled my next exam for 30th August as that's the last day to send in application for the one of the colleges I am aiming for. I would really appreciate your guidance on this and how should I proceed.
I don't feel any conceptual issues but the official gmats were just hard, especially the 3rd one, english was very difficult to comprehend.

Hello, naina2397. That is indeed quite a gap between your practice scores and your official scores. Do you experience overwhelming test anxiety during the actual exam? I ask because I have worked with such students before. Although I do not typically recommend it, you may consider working through large sets of questions on the computer so that your approach becomes second nature by test day. Perhaps a dedicated online learning module would help to this end, one in which you could work on, say, CR assumption questions one day, RC inference questions another day, SC idioms, and so on in an organized fashion, topic by topic. (Make sure to check out the Marketplace.) Work through enough questions in this way, and your approach may become almost mechanical, and if anxiety is currently getting in the way, your training might override it the next time around. You may also want to consider letting go of your expectations or thoughts of what may be riding on your GMAT™ score. When you can focus on a single question at a time, you will be much more inclined to answer that question in a state of mind that will lead to a positive outcome. Many top-scoring candidates have shared, in their debriefs, their recommendations for books or other resources to help with mindfulness.
There is enough time to make significant headway between now and when you intend to take the GMAT™ again. If you go in with a 700-or-bust mindset, though, you will probably come up empty-handed for a fourth time. If I were you, I would consider purchasing an online course, and if you have not taken that sixth official practice test, then in another 7-10 days of dedicated prep, you ought to see where you stand.

Your practice test scores support your thinking that your problem isn't concepts but rather your in-test process. I always use the analogy of sports. Hitting the same shot in practice is much easier than hitting in game conditions. The biggest reason is the pressure that makes your natural instinctive abilities subside and demand a more precise process for answering each type of question. If your problems are particularly in verbal, then things like elimination of answers (in SC) and focusing on core questions during the reading process (RC) are examples of the kind of key tactics that make the most difference.
Similarly with quant, under the pressure of the test, things that you normally notice and remember from the prompt will suddenly start to slip away. Again the precision of your process in each question is critical. It's not just achieved by doing more and more practice problems but actually drilling the critical steps individually.
Most of the people who I work with have the same problem you do. I've seen the greatest success in focusing on fine tuning and coaching them through critical process improvements to make their practice scores line up with their actual test scores.
