Varied scores in mocks

Question

Hi all,

I gave my very first GMAT attempt in Jan this year and scored 620 (Q45 V30). I was definitely not satisfied with it so I took a break for a while and got back to my prep a few months ago. Recently, I gave a few mocks and saw varied scores which are not really helping me understand where my preparation stands. Here are the scores

E-GMAT: 610 Q47 V27
Jamboree Test 1: 720 Q48-50 V35-37
Jamboree Test 2: 700 Q45-47 V34-36
MGMAT: 630 Q45 V32

How shall I go about this? Would be happy to gain some insight.

Hi there,

I gave the official practice exam 1 today and scored 720 (Q50 V37). But I found that a few questions were repeated in both quant and verbal from the mock tests I gave before.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) Since you restarted your studies, how many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used over the course of ALL of your studies? 
3) Which 'brands' of CATs/mocks did you use before taking your first Official GMAT?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

About studies,
1) I typically study for 3-4 hours everyday, completely focusing on practicing verbal and quant so that I get well used to the exam format.
2) Before giving my first attempt, I enrolled in the e-gmat online course and made good use of their scholaranium platform. After my attempt in Jan, I joined jamboree's 4.5 week live online classes and have since completed all the resources provided by them.
3) Before giving my first GMAT official exam, I only gave mocks provided by e-gmat and the 2 official mocks provided by gmac. But I saw a huge difference in their results. I scored 630 in all e-gmat exams and 710 and 690 in official mocks.

About goals,
4) I want to achieve an overall score above 700. Getting a 720 would be a dream come true.
5) I plan to give my second attempt by end of this month so that I can submit my applications in round 2/3.

I gave fresh attempts of official mock 3 and 4 and scored 670 (Q50 V30, Q51 V28) in both.

Hi Saishree, Verbal seems to be a larger issue here, with almost all your mocks.

Which specific sub-section in Verbal is bothering you the most?
