I suggest start with the basics first. Unless you know which formula to use when there's always room for error. Keep practicing. All the best!!

HI kate0528,

Regarding resources, in addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant courses and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

You also may find it helpful to read this article about How To Increase Your GMAT Quant Score

Good luck!

Hi all,

I’m here to ask for advice on how I can best raise my quant score.

I am scheduled to write my GMAT on December 5, 2021 (2.5 months away). I’ve been preparing for about a month now, studying about 20 hours per week.

I knew going into this that my greatest weakness was going to be quant. I have been historically strong in maths, but have not had to look at any type of math without a calculator in my line of work since university around five years ago. Therefore I knew I would be a bit rusty, and this was confirmed by my (abysmal) 34 Q score in my first CAT at the start of my preparation. Total score was 600, which was mostly boosted by my 39V score.

I have been studying for about a month now with a quant focus, and I truly thought I had gone over the basics for all of my quant work according to the official GMAC quant curriculum using YouTube tutorials and online guides to relearn basic principles. However, upon taking a second CAT yesterday, I was horrified to score a 630. I had timing issues with my Verbal leading to a 38V (which I know I can improve easily with a bit more practise pacing wise), but what worried me the most was my 39Q score. I cannot believe I have only gone up 5 points in a month at the rate I have been studying, which included timed practise questions and concept reviews. I need a 700 to be competitive for the one and only school I am applying to (Rotman), and quite honestly I’m worried that I will not be able to get my quant high enough in 2.5 months to go for my MBA.

The questions simply just seemed DIFFERENT than the things I had been studying. So much more convoluted. I definitely panicked and guessed questions too. Any advice or resources would be appreciated, as well as an evaluation as to whether improving my quant to even a 44Q level is possible in the time I have. I am on a bit of a budget (trying to save for tuition) so expensive tutoring or courses are not options for me. Thanks a ton in advance everyone :)

Hi Kate--

I recently made this post: https://gmatclub.com/forum/the-getting- ... l#p2863595

The videos and blog posts in that list cover a huge number of topics, strategies, habits, and mindsets that are necessary to succeed in quant.

As you study, the big thing to remember is that the difficulty in quant is *not* just 'conceptual.' Make sure you put heavy focus on process, strategy, and habits!
