Should I retake the GMAT?

Hi,

I recently scored a 750 on the GMAT (V41 Q49) but got abysmal scores in IR-4 and AW-3. 
I have sent the AW for rescoring but if that isn't helpful, should I retake the GMAT?

Congrats on the 750. Sorry about the AWA 3. That is weird! Did you use the Chineseburt template? It is a super easy way to get a high AWA score. https://gmatclub.com/forum/how-to-get-6 ... 64327.html As to the reality of AWA the IR, it hardly matters. I probably would not retake at this stage in the application process unless you feel you can perform equally well on the Q and V while also doing well in IR and AWA. Schools do not care about the IR and AWA scores and the scores you have are passable where they would ignore them without raising issues/red flags. Note that the AdCom has access to your AWA essay and if you feel they would be scared if they read it, then perhaps you can revisit and retest but otherwise, I would not worry about it and work on your apps.

750 is a fantastic score, so honestly, I think you will be fine despite your low AWA score. If you are overly concerned you could also give the folks in admissions a call to see if they can provide some clarity.

Hi manitsingh59,

First off, a 750/Q49 is an outstanding Score, so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. Since many Business Schools have publicly stated that they don't use the IR score as part of the application process, you have nothing to worry about there. Most Schools expect Applicants to score at least a 4.0 on the AWA (but scoring a 3.0 likely won't necessarily disqualify you - as that type of result means that you likely went 'off topic' on your AWA). As a possible 'counter' to that result, you might consider writing any optional essays that the Schools offer and/or making sure that you are properly prepared for any interviews that you might face. This is all meant to say that a retest is probably NOT necessary.

You're ultimately asking an Admissions question though, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans.
