I agree with sjuniv32 that Manhattan prep strategy guides are good resources. Also consider going through PowerScore BIBLE for CR.

Hi Synthia221 - There are many books on the market all going over a bunch of mathematical theory to study for the GMAT . Ironically, the GMAT is not an exam that tests mathematical theories / formulae.

Most people think the exam is about memorizing a bunch formules / exceptions / rules / numerical properties / geometrical theories with the help of flashcards
From my experience -- the less formulae / rules you learn -- the better you will do on quant.

This exams 'tests' logical reasoning.

The best book I have seen on the market is from Avi Gutman . You can check it out here.

What makes his book different from the quant books available is the following

-- All what is explained is explained in the form of stories or concepts
-- Avi does not teach a bunch of rules / theories / formula's
-- If there is anything to be memorized, the formula should make 'intuitive' sense. You should NOT HAVE TO MEMORIZE a formula on a flash-card. It should be make 'intuitive' sense to you
-- Dedicated Forum available for follow up questions or concerns
-- Very fast turn-around on any questions posted on the forum (less than 24 hours)
-- Official OG questions are ALREADY paired for you in the book alongside the topics being discussed - That way, you can immediately practice the concepts on actual OG questions
-- Video solutions to all OG questions using the topics discussed in the book.

What are some good books for the GMAT preparation?

Hi Synthia221,

Is there a reason why you specifically wish to study from books? The reason I'm saying so is Books are not interactive and they can't give you feedback as to where you're weak and what you should next to improve your scores. Moreover the recall from a book is not that great. There are much better methods of learning than learning from books.

However, if you still wish to learn from books I would recommend using Manhattan guides along with Powerscore Bible for CR. And ya the OG is a must. But I would recommend you to use the OG only as a question bank as it may contain GMAT like questions but its definitely does not help you prepare.

Regarding prep courses, in addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.
