GMAT score stuck at 585-595; Cry for help!
Hi all,
My GMAT journey has been a long one!!
Attempt 1: I started studying last year in June and gave my first attempt in October 2023 (Classic) and scored 580. I had never scored lower than 660 in any of my mocks, and my maximum score was around 730. So this score was a shocker plus quite disappointing
First attempt score: 580 (Q44, V27)
Attempt 2: I took a break of 2-3 months after my first attempt, started studying again around February, then gave my second attempt in April 2024, and scored 575. Again one of my lowest when compared to my mocks. This time, I gave all 6 official mocks. My scores were:
Mock 1: 555 (DI77, Q77, V78)
Mock 2: 595 (DI77, Q80, V82)
Mock 3: 595 (DI77, Q82, V80)
Mock 4: 655 (DI81, Q80, V83)
Mock 5: 615 (DI77, Q84, V81)
Mock 6: 635 (DI81, Q80, V83)
Second attempt score: 585 (DI76, Q79, V82)
Attempt 3: This time I took a break for 1 month, and then started working on my basic concepts again. Did some chapter-wise concepts, and leveraged the question bank on Gmat Club for verbal and quant to solve different questions of concepts I usually get wrong to get the hang of it. For DI, purchased the official DI questions and solved those. I gave 3 official mocks this time:
Mock 1: 625 (DI80, Q80, V83)
Mock 2: 615 (DI78, Q80, V84)
Mock 3: 625 (DI78, Q83, V82)
Third attempt score: 595 (DI77, Q82, V,80)
I don't know what I should do. I did give my best during my third attempt. Should I accept that this is my best? Is there anyway to increase my score? My target is 655 (~700-710 classic score). Please can someone guide me? I really need some solid advice on what to do next.

Pan11 - Thank you for sharing your journey so far. While you've clearly put in a lot of effort, practicing hundreds of questions, it appears that you haven't yet built the fundamental skills needed to significantly improve your score. Both your Quant and Verbal scores need improvement, and to achieve this, you'll need to develop your skills to a point where you can visualize information the moment you read it.
Your current approach of doing mocks and hoping to improve isn't the most effective strategy. Instead, you need to focus on building the missing skills first, and then track your improvement at the subsection level. Here is a student who tried the same strategy, did not improve beyond 555 despite 4 months of effort, and was eventually able to score 765. Look at how he re-architected his study habits.
Remember, improvement on the GMAT isn't just about practicing more questions – it's about developing the right skills and habits. For Verbal CR, Manhattan-Prep's 6th Edition for Critical Reasoning may be worth checking out. If you feel your fundamentals are solid, consider working on your solving approach. May help boost your score a bit. Perhaps include working with a study buddy. If you can find someone who is strong in areas you aren't (and vice versa), that could be a good fit.
