=12ptHello,
=12ptI have had a diagnosed learning disability from a young age (Auditory Memory Sequencing Disorder) and have received accommodations throughout my life. However, the standard accommodations I typically use are not available for the GMAT, which makes me hesitant about the alternatives. I usually receive 100% extra time, text-to-speech software (such as Natural Reader, Read & Write, Kurzweil, etc.), and access to a computer for writing due to motor impairment and challenges with handwriting. I am aware that the standards for accommodations are high. I have the necessary psychoeducational assessments for both the learning disability and ADHD and letters from my university detailing the accommodations I received there. The evaluator for my psychoeducational assessments is no longer praticing so I am unable to receive an additional letter of support from them.
=12ptFor the GMAT, the only available text-to-speech software is designed for the visually impaired (JAWS and ZoomText) that operate quite different than I am used to, and I have not seen an option for using a computer for note-taking, particularly necessary for the verbal section. The alternative is to use a reader and scribe, but I have found this method quite time-consuming in the past due to the delays in communication (asking the reader to start, stop, explain what part to re-read or detailing what to write to the scribe and waiting for them to write it down) and limitations on multitasking.
=12ptI am aiming to apply in Round 2 and have been studying since May for my first attempt in September. As I continue practicing, I am increasingly recognizing the need for my usual accommodations. I am concerned about the effectiveness of a reader/scribe, especially as it is challenging to practice with this method compared to using my text-to-speech software and managing time during the test. I have already been granted 50% extra time and in the process of re-submitting my accommodation requests and looking for insights from those that have experience or insights on accommodation with the GMAT.
