Hey anushka_mathur

You have made a great progress—focus on the upcoming exam on the 14th for now. Afterward, you can plan a second attempt if needed before Round 2 deadlines. Good luck!

Thank you for your advice!

I have been able to increase my score to 535 (Q70, V82, DI78) through time management and practice to avoid silly mistakes. But I have my exam on 14th. I am thinking of taking a second attempt and targetting a score of 650+. When would you suggest I give the second attempt considering approaching round 2 application deadlines of universities?

Thanks!!

Hi anushka_mathur,

First, I want to be very honest and say that there is a very small chance of increasing your GMAT score by 250 points in just one month. In any case, I want to provide some advice on how to move forward with your prep.

Regarding how to study for the GMAT, I recommend concentrating on one subject at a time while studying. This allows for thorough understanding and practice, which is key to improving your score.

For example, let's consider your study of Number Properties. First, immerse yourself in all aspects of this topic, and then, focus solely on Number Property questions. After each problem set, take the time to delve into your incorrect answers. This self-reflection is a powerful tool that allows you to understand your learning process and make significant improvements. For instance, if you made a mistake in a remainder question, ask yourself why. Was it a careless error? Did you not apply the remainder formula correctly? Was there a concept in the question that you didn't grasp?

By meticulously analyzing your mistakes, you will efficiently address your weaknesses and, consequently, enhance your GMAT quant skills. This process has been unequivocally proven to be effective. Number Properties is just one example; follow this process for all Quant, Verbal, and DI topics.

For some more tips on the best way to structure your studying, here is a great article:

420 (was it 425?) to 535 is a big jump! Well done, and all the best for the first attempt on the 14th.

Wow. You should be pretty proud of yourself in terms of a significant increase. On average, even with an expensive course, people only go up about 130 points on average.

If you can tighten some of the timing and not be afraid to guess and skip, you should be able to bump up your score. Focus the areas you can improve the most until the 14th. This may be weaknesses or it may actually be strengths. If something comes easy to you, you can keep pushing it (within limit)

Hi!

Thanks a lot for the advise!

I took the first attempt on 14th and scored 585 (Q78, V85, DI74). I am happy with the improvement (from 425 to 585 in a month) but it still is not enough for my target schools.

I am thinking of attempting the exam again in December and aim to increase my score to 650+. I believe this would be harder since it’s easier to bump up the score from very low to average than average to high (in my understanding). Could you please help me form a strategy to push the score by another 80-100 points?

Thanks!

Congratulations on the score!!

I recommend focusing on your weak areas in Quant, as you scored a 78. You already have a great Verbal score—see if you can increase it to 86 or 87. For Data Insights, I suggest concentrating on official questions only.

It would be helpful if you could share your report.

Hey Anuksha, were you able to improve to 650+? I am in a similar boat and want to know what your eventual score was.
