Question

Hi,

Kindly evaluate my profile and suggest schools to apply for 2014

GMAT - 700 (Q49, V35)
Country- India

B.E. Mechanical from BITS Pilani
CGPA - 7.8/10

Experience- 4yrs if enrolled in 2014
Sector of experience- Renewable energy(Solar )
Area of experience- 2yrs at a manufacturing major in Energy

Role- looked after sales and marketing for solar based heating and cooling applications- primarily in industrial sector
In the first year I was located at the head quarters and was invloved in marketing and business development. Activities done are
- developed marketing tools and promotional kits to increase the leads generation
- market research for various solar based applications and calculating companys market share in Solar energy based applications
- represented company in various seminars and expos
In the second year took the initiative to handle a seperate region
- youngest member in the team to handle a territory to promote renewable energy and generate sales
- generated orders within 6 months (very challenging task in renewable energy)
- Developed dealer network and managed the dealers in the region
- organized seminars and training programs

After 2 yrs co founded a company in renewable energy
- Developed a product that works on solar and conventional electricity
- streamlined activites that invloved vendor development, assembly line for the product, operations management and after sales service
- Marketing strategies and promotional kits 
- Successfully launched the product for the customers
- clocked good sales in the first year
Apart form the product, also developed web based enquiry generation platform for dealers and manufacturers in renewable energy domain

The startup is 13 months old

Extra curriclulars

City winner and semifinalist at national level in a business plan competition organised by an automobile corporate major
Contested for election during college for student body
Cricket team captain at High School and at the former company
Have been a volunteer for Teach for India but couldnt continue due to my travelling

Post MBA- continue to work in the energy sector

Kindly let me know which schools I can apply

Hey there my friend,
Thanks for dropping by.
One thing that confused me a bit (sorry) was WHEN exactly you planned to apply. In 2013 FOR 2014? Or in 2014 for 2015. Because you wrote you have only 2 years experience, which means by 2014 you would have three (but you wrote four).

Anyhow, first things first, I do not recommend applying until you have at least THREE years experience in the bag (meaning at LEAST four when you matriculate) SOME people get in earlier, but they are working in guaranteed industries for guaranteed firms (McKinsey, Big Banks, etc.) so 2013 might be a bit early for you.

For 2014, assuming one more year of experience, I'd say your school range would be approximately (very approximately, until I get to know you better) something in the range of schools ranked 20-50 (We are going by US News rankings here). It depends of course a bit on what happens in the coming time, so it's a bit hard to say.

Plus if you are considering applying next year, and think you can do better on your GMAT, you MIGHT want to retake.... not for sure... only maybe.
