Hi,
This is Xiang, a 33-yo EE engineer from China working in U.S.. Can you please evaluate my profile for MBA application? And give me any suggestions.
GMAT:
16 Jul 2014 (official Score) --- TOTAL 730 (96%), Verbal 38 (85%), Quant 50 (88%)
(This is my fourth try and the highest one)
EDUCATION:
Undergraduate: A top Chinese engineering school (class of 2003, >80/100)
Graduate: UPenn Engineering (class of 2010, 3.54/4.0)
Major: Both Electrical Engineering
WORK EXPERIENCE:
7 years full time + 1 year intern
May 2014 - Present A start-up (U.S.) as a technical leader
2012 - April 2014 Texas Instruments (U.S.) Staff engineer
1. Project leader in a project.
2. Technical expert in business teams for top Chinese high techs several times.
3. Business development to locate new customers in China.
2010 - 2012 LSI (U.S.) Senior engineer
1. Worked in a team to develop the latest storage chips.
2. Leader in a project.
2005 - 2008 The world's largest telecom company (China)
1. Joined as a Junior.
2. Participated in four projects.
3. Leader in the fourth project to develop a new chip never done before and produced over 1million pieces, knocking out competitors in our equipments.
2004 - 2005 Intern in a telecom company (China)

Hello hello,
So let's start with your questions.
1. Yes, but if this is what you want, apply anyway. But make sure you explain WHY it makes sense despite the age.
2. Why would this be an issue? There's nothing wrong with a startup. It's more question of what and why you jumped, and how this makes sense in terms of your future dreams and your MBA goals.
3. Yes. Your list is basically the Top 10 list. And your age alone can make things tough here. If you want to apply to nine schools, choose 1-2 from the top 10 and then the rest from 10-30.
Overall your GMAT is great, graduating from UPEnn is great also! Your work experience is good for your industry, but as a Chinese Techie, it makes things harder (which is why one of the things you really need to do is make yourself seem "leadershipy" rather than techie). Add your age tot he Mix and top 10 schools become real long shots for you. Instead, as I wrote above, moderate your goals a wee bit in adjusting your school list.
