Hey dude,
Sooo the short of it is that you have a really good really solid base with a great GPA and a very excellent GMAT, and solid work experience.

I don't see any MAJOR weaknesses, but there are a few minor ones to watch out for:
- The smaller employer
- A Non Ivy League school

Okay, so pretty good so far. The MOST important thing for the schools I think is that you try and show that you have done WELL at work and worked HARD. They might fear that things were a weeeeee bit loose at a small family business, so prove them otherwise!!!

The second thing I think you need to focus on is the extras - volunteer work, extra currics, sports, hobbies, leadership... Right now, from what you wrote here, things feel just a wee bit flat, if very solid. So let's give your profile some definition, some spice. You may have to dig a bit, and be miiiiighty creative, but at the end, it will pay off!

I think your school list is pretty fair, and with a lovely application and great essays, you can pull it off!

All the best,

Jon
Thanks for the feedback! I am glad to know that my work experience won't harm my application too much. I will definitely try to convey in my resume, essay, and interview that my role in the company is vital and demonstrate increasing responsibility. I am hopeful that the owner will write a great recommendation since he is the one giving me more and more responsibilities.

One quick follow up, do you have any insight on Berkeley's admission habits? I heard they love to take applicants with quant heavy backgrounds and people in science and engineering. Do you know if Berkeley takes many career switchers like me?

Well, let's call it a "career shift" rather than a switch. We don't want this to be a 180 change, bu rather "Hey I've done A and B and C... all of which is really useful to prepare myself for my goal of D". That's more the sort of logic that works, at Hass like everyone else.

It is true that Hass is Tech and Quant heavy, but they do well for finance too, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Best of luck,
JF
