Hello Everybody!!

I would request a profile evaluation.
I belong to the run of the mill Indian IT male crowd. Hence I am really worried about getting admissions to my list of colleges.
I would appreciate if you guys can evaluate my profile and let me know if I am on the correct path with regards to university selection

Why MBA ?
A firm grounding in business management knowledge and the cultivation of leadership skills are some of the things
I hope to gain out of an MBA. At a functional level, I want to pursue an MBA to gain expertise in strategic or technology
consulting. I want to transition from being a pure technical role to a functional role.

Post MBA goals
To work in a consulting firm as a strategic/ tech consultant where where I can leverage my
interpersonal skills and contribute more on the business side.

As,I have an IT consulting background, I want to pursue a career in consulting.
The technology relevance of the university combined with job opportunities are the two critical factors for me in choosing a university

I'll be applying in Round2.
Below are the universities that I am thinking of.
I wont be applying to all the colleges. I need help from your side to know about my chances of getting admission in these colleges. That way I can cut down on this list to 7

University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign
Brigham Young University (Marriott)
Georgia Institute of Technology (Scheller)
University of Georgia (Terry)
Pennsylvania State University (Smeal)
University of Connecticut
North Carolina State University (Jenkins)
University of South Carolina (Moore)
Baruch College- Zicklin
UT-Dallas
Pittsburg (Katz)
Cincinnati (Lindner)
Univ of Connecticut

I would really appreciate any kind of help that I can get from your side.

Well, you are definitely from a tough pool!!!
:)

But you will do your mightiest to make your application unique and passionate! And will stand out...

I think your biggest strength that I see here is your leadership. Plenty of folks apply without any leadership at all, and that is one thing that will fo' sho' help you out. So focus on those experiences as much as you can.

Secondly, your school list is a really reasonable one given your background and GMAT. There is a good mix of tough, competitive and easier schools, and you will just have to choose which schools you leave out.

One thing to think about is that although you do have some decent volunteer work and ECs, what we have here so far is all a bit "regular". Not to belittle it in any way! It's great that you have this stuff, but one thing to think about, esp. coming form this TOUGH HUGE pool that you come from, is how you are going to differentiate yourself...

So get that thinking cap on! Otherwise, in terms of GPA, GMAT, work experience... everything is good and solid and I need no major concerns anywhere.

Best of luck, and let me know if there is anything else...

Best,
Jon

Hey Jon,
Thank you so much for evaluating my profile.
Yes, I will surely try to present a story that focuses on the leadership aspect.
About the community service, I do understand that I havent done anything extraordinary, I faced many challenges while doing the community work which I think I can showcase.

I just have one more small request from you.
Would it be possible for you to categorize the above schools into easy, moderate and ambitious category?

One again, I would like to thank you :-D

Sure thing, although I should say that it'll be a pretty rough evaluation, since we haven't dug into your profile.

Probably the tougher schools will be Marriot and Scheller. Moore Jenkins, Linder would be likely safe (with a decent chance for scholarships), and the others somewhere in the middle. My suggestion to you is that take a careful look at the hiring and salary statistics, as well as where people go when they graduate, and into what positions (in your industry). The best possible thing for you is to go to a school that has a good track record of sending folks to your target employers.

Wish you all the best,
Jon
