Hi,
I'm a recent graduate from Rutgers and I had a specific question in regards to Business School. If anyone has any insight (preferably with personal experience or data) please share it! Thank you in advance!
Background:
-During my time at Rutgers I was heavily focused on attending law school. Thankfully, I did well on my LSAT and was recently admitted into Duke Law with a significant scholarship.
-Undergraduate GPA: 3.62/4, but w/ a 4.0 in my majors (History & Political Science)
-I have a strong interest in education. I started an education consulting service in college for high school students, and I have given over 30 workshops on the college application cycle, financial aid, essay writing, etc. I have also worked with high schools directly helping them with their guidance counseling programs.
-I have worked as a guidance counselor for two years.
-Long term I want to work in the education sector.
-I have significant leadership experience as a community member and college student. This includes demonstrated interpersonal skills, project management, event planning, and cultural competency.
-I am SouthEast Asian (I heard this makes a difference with MBA programs)
-I am Muslim (for diversity purposes- not sure if this helps)
Current Dilemma:
I feel as though I was so focused on the idea of law school that I didn't explore other options like an MBA. I worked hard on my LSATs and got into a top 10 law school, and only now am I realizing that there are other options out there. To be fair, I only recently considered my college side business (the consulting service) and education as a whole, a more intriguing pursuit. Either way, the main program I want to set my sights on is the Stanford MBA/MA Education program, because it perfectly aligns with my interests. The issue is I don't have work experience in consulting, investment banking, or private equity and I know that Top MBA programs look at that type of work experience much more highly. Moreover, I know that the average applicant has about 4 years of work experience, whereas I only have 2. Additionally, I know that a Stanford MBA is much tougher to get into, and I don't want to set aside what's in front of me (Duke Law) for what might be a pipe dream.
I know if I had both options in front of me (as in I got into both) I'd pursue the Stanford MBA/MA Education without reservation.
The Question:
So given my work & leadership experience would I be a strong candidate for the Stanford MBA/MA Education program? Or would I really have no shot at the program? (assuming I score well on the GMAT/GRE- I think for the MBA/MA program you have to take the GRE)
