Hey there
Admissionado,
I am currently weighing my options as to whether or not I should even try for an MBA. I am a 27 yr old White Male, who is currently a Mutual Fund Wholesaler focusing in sector plays. Over the past year, I have excelled in selling a fund that is a Natural Gas play, and have grown a genuine fascination and passion for the Cleantech industry. My good friend and accountant told me about an MBA program at the University of Texas with a Cleantech focus and after researching the program, it is a perfect fit for what I want to accomplish career wise. So here it goes:
The Good:
- Proven track record of sales success in Clean Technology and a very strong understanding of the midstream/downstream business lines of the Natural Gas story
- Very strong professional references: I have a very strong relationship with my Sales Manager, Company CEO, and Portfolio Manager of the fund
- I took a practice GMAT over the weekend and with no prior review or studying I scored a 640 and am very rusty with the testing material
The Bad:
- Low undergraduate GPA: 2.3 from the University of Mississippi
- Low education savings: I think I have like 26k left in my 529 that my parents started for me
- I am considering applying for the 2017 deadline, which means I would be 29 by the age of matriculation
I really just need some guidance. I really want to break in to the business development/consulting side of Cleantech, but I do already make a pretty attractive living by most people’s standards. Would I have a punchers chance of getting in to this program, and if so do you think it would be worth taking on all the debt? Thanks!
