Prospective applicant to B-school here, but I have a very unusual story. I was born in a foreign country and brought here by my mother who abandoned me when I was 19. I was accepted into a business school, however, I had to defer because of her leaving me. Ever since 19, I had many part-time jobs and one full-time job for about 11 months (caretaking after an elderly lady), since I needed to support myself.
Then I decided to go back to school after saving some money and was accepted to a target liberal arts college which has a top 5 business school in the country. Now I am senior graduating with honors in my major and already accepted to a STEM Masters at my school on a scholarship, however, in the recent months I realized that I always wanted to work in finance. I major in Economics and Math for my UG, and was accepted for Math for grad school. My dream was always investment banking, and finance is what I would originally major in if I started at the business school when I was 19.
My applications for ibd analyst roles were all rejected and the only call backs in finance for me were for either quant analysis or risk management (the roles I am not interested in).
Do you think it is worth it for me to apply for MBA and present my application as a career change? I am clearly not an average UG student and I have high maturity levels and survival skills. I am also 24 years old, so I am a little older than an average UG student.
Any feedback would help!
