Thanks for the quick reply Jon,

About my work experience and promotions (I would attach a resume but I have not updated it for a while)

2007-2009 Worked for Locally based property development company with over $300m in assets. I started out assisting with project management and then moved to managing the development and redevelopment of several neighborhood shopping centres. This was during my undergraduate degree. Managed the planning and design process, then worked closely with the builders during the construction phase.

2010 - Started Honours degree and postgraduate research

2011 - Masters degree, but this year was a bit of write off due to major surgery and rehabilitation ect.

2012 - 2014 (2 years 7 months) - Graduate program with State Government Treasury Department - Promoted to level 4, then promoted to level 5. Worked on major projects, including the valuation of government assets for sale. Also undertook a number of policy projects. I was selected to be on several government panels to approve infrastructure and development tenders and proposal. Several of my projects were enacted by government.

July 2014- Present - Economic Analyst at boutique energy consultancy, promoted to senior consultant and team leader of corporate advisory. Have worked with major banks and transnational energy and infrastructure companies. I have valued assets such as pipelines, generator and oil and gas feilds, and provide advice on transactions ect. I lead the team now and review all the work of the unit as well as provide training and mentoring to junior consultants. Most recent project was working with the state government on assessing the commercial viability of a major resource owned by many companies. This was a 6 month project and required some gas basin engineering, SQL database management and economic scenario modelling and valuation assessment.

September 2014- Part of a start up in health tech which is now being marketed and trialed with a number of hospitals and health networks. I work with the clients to assess the potential savings. I also provide all financial and budget planning for the business.

Although this is a bit vague I hope it helps. All up 3 different jobs and 4 promotions over 8 years? Plus almost a year out of the workforce due to major surgery?

From the feedback I have received so far I could be competitive if I can secure a strong gmat score.

I will sit the gmat in July as I usually do a 60 hour work week so I only have time to study before work in the morning and weekends. I am not in a rush.

Cheers

Stephen

Hey Stephen,
Well as far as the work experience goes it looks good. I guess given the amount your years you have behind you, you are about 30/31 or so? That'll put you a bit on the older side, but it shouldn't be a major disadvantage.

I wouldn't worry about your year off for surgery. If anybody would hold that against you then they are really not good people! :)

And I agree that right now its the GMAT that's key - meaning overall everything looks good so far (although you need to find your story - both in terms of trajectory and goals and in of making it unique), and the first obvious step before you come tot eh essays and applications is hitting that target score.

So good luck on that!!!!

Best,
Jon
