Hi Experts,
Could you please help evaluate my profile? I am looking to apply for MBA programs in 2022, Spring or Fall and would like to know which programs would be realistic for me to aim for.
Demographic: 37 M, Indian
Education: B. Tech (Mechanical Engineering) from NIT – 6.7/10
GMAT: 710(awa 3) and GRE: 331(AWA 2.5) and IELTS 7.5
Work experience and progression:
- ~ 13 Years of experience, in Oil & Gas Sector (Govt owned).
Other than this, I also have a 2 month of in tool Room in Helicopter Division in HAL, India
Extra-curricular:
- I have a 6-months internship working with an NGO.
-Presented Paper at several reputed institutions
- Students’ Representative at ISTE student’s Chapter
-Won Best IDEA Award at Place of Work
My post-MBA goal – I have a stronger appetite to create and Lead sustainable Transport and Energy Models, the same domain, on which people like Elon Musk and Richard bronsan vet onto.
I have a few questions I am hoping you can help answer:
1. Which best MBA programs should I aim for?
2. TAKING into considerations not so good AWA score in both gmat and gre, could you pls guide , how much AWA matters for TOP B-schools and out of GMAT & GRE which Score i should report to B Schools. Shall i sit once more to improve my AWA to target niche B-Schools.
BTW i am targeting ISB, Michigan ROSS, DUKE, RICE

A: Michigan, ISB, Ross, Duke and Rice actually feel like an appropriate target list given your interests in the energy space. To align ourselves here, are you looking at full-time or part-time/Executive MBA programs?
2. TAKING into considerations not so good AWA score in both gmat and gre, could you pls guide , how much AWA matters for TOP B-schools and out of GMAT & GRE which Score i should report to B Schools. Shall i sit once more to improve my AWA to target niche B-Schools.
A: The AWA score is not terribly critical (especially if you write good essays) but it can be something that raises eyebrows. Do you know why you didn't score as highly as you had wished? I see no downside to sitting for the GMAT once more, assuming you have time. You can also try to improve yoru 710 in the process which would be doubly beneficial. If nothing else changes, I would submit both GRE and GMAT. They feel about on par and you can let the school decide which is technically higher based on their averages, ranges, and conversions.

1) i am looking for Full time MBA ( 1 YR EXE MBA)
2) I WRITE GOOD ESSAYS BUT SOMEHOW, I HAVEN'T EVEN PREPARED FOR AWA, AND THE DISASTER HAPPENED. BUT NOW IT SEEMS TO PAIN as i don't have any leave further to prepare for next Exam , at least till Dec. In that case what should be safest bet.
3) DO ALL TOP B- SCHOOLS IN US consider AWA so seriously so as to risk my application to rejection
