Hi,
Could you please evaluate my profile and provide any feedback? I'm not sure if I should prepare an alternative transcript.
Ethnicity: Asian (Chinese)
Gender: Female
Age: 27
Education: 1. International Business, Top 25 School in China, GPA 3.8/4.0 (Completed 4 semesters)
2. Economics, Top 20 US Public School, GPA 3.6/4.0 (International Transfer)
I attended the first school in China for 2 years and then transferred to the U.S. school. I earned my undergraduate degree from the second school.
GMAT Score: 740
Professional Experience: 3.5 years
I'm a data analytics consultant working at a global consulting firm. It's been about 3.5 years at the current company and I got promoted twice. I got promoted fast from the Level 2 position to Level 3 position after one year.
Extracurricular Activities
1. Volunteer instructor at a coding camp for kids. (6 months).
Reach: Wharton, MIT
Target: Columbia, Kellogg, Chicago Booth, Fuqua, Haas, Yale
I believe my overall GPA is good but I have some withdrawals on my transcripts from both schools. I've heard 1-2 Ws are fine but more than 1-2 would raise a red flag. I have 3 Ws on my transcript from the first school and all of them were non-quant, elective courses like literature, western arts, etc. Besides the three Ws, I got mostly As and a few B+s. However, my transcript from the U.S. school looks pretty bad. I graduated with 3.6 GPA but also have three Ws. Plus, this time, two of them were business courses like data analytics and supply chain. But I still got As and B+s on other quant/Econ classes. To be honest, I relied on the withdrawal systems to get better final GPA even though I wasn't really failing. I'm not going to give the exact same reason to explain the Ws on my transcript in my admission essays (I think I should come up with a better reason.) but I am still very concerned about them. Do you think I should prepare an alternative transcript to cover those withdrawals? For example, although I don't think I can re-take all 6 courses I dropped, I can still try to retake those two business courses and get an A on both.
I'm worried that the admission committees might think I'm not good with advanced quant or business subjects or I lack commitment or dedication. Should I build an alternative transcript? Or do you think other factors (e.g. fast promotion in analytics consulting, high GMAT quant score) can help? I regret it so much but unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about it. I'm trying to focus on what I can improve from now. Do you think it is a huge red flag that decreases the odds of getting into top MBA programs? Or do you think I still have a chance? I'd appreciate any feedback.

A: No, that won't be viewed as a legitimate way to address this issue. You should explain this briefly in the optional essay for each school.

A: They will absolutely help. Those are strengths in your profile and will definitely balance out concerns about your transcript.

A: No, I don't think this is a red flag. It's a minor concern but, as you said, there's nothing you can do about it beyond what we have suggested. A bigger concern in your profile is your lack of extracurricular achievements. Are you applying now? If so, there's also nothing you can do about it. If not, there are ways to beef that up over the next 9+ months for the 2023-2024 season.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I'm planning to apply later this year (Round 1/Round 2) for 2023-2024. I have some other extracurricular activities I did in college but I'm not sure if they also count. I will continue my current volunteer work this year until I actually apply. I feel like it's been a little bit hard to find good extracurricular/volunteer opportunities these days because of some COVID restrictions. Many of them are closed or currently inactive. What are the best extracurricular activities for MBA admissions? For example, is it better to have something related to my profession (e.g. programmer volunteering at a code camp) or can it be anything?
