I am looking for deferred MBA applications this year (2024 batch). I require assistance in deciding the GMAT score as required for my profile.
Background
Indian Engineer Male
Pursuing BTech in Production Engineering from NIT Trichy (One of the top 10 Engineering colleges in India)
Current GPA 9.03/10
3 Internships - 2 in Marketing and 1 in Supply Chain Mgmt (All 3 are at different Indian Startups)
Notable achievement - I am currently working on a startup idea that will be incorporated before Oct 2023 (This won't be just a startup just for the sake of the admission process, but I am quite serious about it). At the same time, have been selected twice by HPAIR as their delegate (Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations) but couldn't attend either.
Post MBA would like to have a career in Entrepreneurship
Target Schools - Havent decided on yet
Please suggest a safe GMAT Score
At the same time, please share how should I shortlist target schools?
Like how is HBS different from Stanford or Wharton from Kellogg etc.

To be upfront with you, you are not a prime candidate for a deferred MBA program, or at least the top ones. These programs are highly selective (mostly because they have so few spots) and they tend to gravitate towards non-traditional backgrounds. That's not to say that you won't have a chance, especially with a high GMAT score, but it will definitely be an uphill battle. You will be a MUCH stronger candidate with at least a few years of work experience.

Thanks admissionado for the reality check. Indeed I am aware that it will be tough journey ahead.
When I asked how hbs different from Stanford, I meant how does a candidate decide which school should he/she target ?
I do understand that post-MBA goals would be a strong reason but how does one find which school fits his goals ? Is there any specific website where I can get all these details ???
Or to put it in another words, how to shortlist target schools ? What should be the different criterias and where except the school website can one find the required info?
