I recently graduated from the University of Alabama with a 4.0 in Finance with a concentration in Econ and a minor in Math. I received a job offer before starting my final semester as a Program Control analyst for a large Government contractor. The job is very accounting based, and to be honest, I'm bored to an extent. After working for a few months, I decided I would take the GMAT exam to go ahead and prep myself for grad school.
GMAT Breakdown:
Score: 690 (87%)
Quant: 47
Verbal: 38
With 2-3 years of work experience, could anyone provide me with some realistic probabilities of getting into Booth, Stern, HBS, Wharton, or the like?

Hi there,
Congrats on the stellar GPA, and it's a good thing that you are planning ahead. My reaction would be to encourage you to take the GMAT again, since you have the time, and bumping it up would definitely help, as many of those schools have averages of 720 or so, plus that may shift in another few years too. Beyond that, schools will look at your entire profile... they'll be looking for academic ability; professional experience; leadership potential; personal character... they want to know what you'll contribute to a b-school class, why you need the MBA, how you'll use the degree, why their school is right for you. So definitely spend some time focusing on what your career goals are so you can make the case for why you need the MBA, and you may want to consider a job switch in the meantime if you don't feel this is what you want to be doing, so you can gain some experience in an area you DO want to work in. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your feedback. The more I read into what is required of the lower GMAT scores that are accepted into the top MBA programs, I am inclined to agree with you. Even though a 690 is within the 80% range for all the top 10 programs right now, I do not have the professional experiences that most of my counterparts with the same score have. And, like you said, the average GMAT scores have been trending upwards as of late.
With a little more prep, I hope I could break the 700 threshold. However, there is always the concern that I may score lower than my first attempt. I see everyone say that schools only consider your top score, but they can see your past 5 attempts. What (if any) would be the negative consequences of scoring, for example, 690-660-710?
