Hi,
I was wondering if I could get my profile evaluated and may be receive some input on how to go about applications
Profile :
Male, Indian, 22
Undergraduate : Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, top 10 private university in India
Multiple Internships
CGPA : 7.81/10 (Mostly B+ , 8.6 for the last four terms, mostly an A)
Work experience : 14 months as of now , a multinational insurance firm ( remember the 2008 crisis?
) at their property engineering division in India.
Mostly dealing with stakeholders in making insurance and policy decisions, providing engineering input for the same.
Involved in a few developmental projects for process improvement and efficiency
Extra curricular activities : Educational support at a local NGO, 4-5 hrs of commitment a week, a few MOOCs
GMAT : 710 , Q49, V36
I have cut off the top 10 from the possible list citing my experience and profile.
Area of interest : Finance
I wish to pursue an MBA in finance. With this profile, do I have a realistic chance of getting through to any of the top 30 programs this year,
since an alternative that I am considering is the MS in finance.
Do suggest between going for an MS in Finance this year Vs MBA finance next year.
Kindly evaluate my candidature for both sets of programs.

2) Kelley, Indiana
3)Emory
4)Mccombs , UT Austin
5)Scheller, GeorgiaTech
6)Mays
7)Krannert, Purdue
Outside US:
1)NUS, Singapore

Hi there,
It sounds like you are at a crossroads trying to make a big decision about MBA vs MS in Finance. They are two different paths...the Masters in Finance is more specialized and would perhaps help with specific jobs and paths, whereas the MBA may open a larger variety of potential paths if desired as it maybe offers more flexibility and a general management education. The best thing to do is focus on the END goal... envision your career in 5, 10, 15 years... then work backwards, and identify what the path looks like and what degree might best help you to get there. If you still aren't sure, do some more research and speak with as many people as you can in actual roles, and also recruiters for actual roles, at companies you may be interested in, doing things you'd like to do, and get feedback on what degree they recommend. Finally, admissions-wise at the current point in time the MBA admissions would be tough, but working a bit more and gaining more leadership experience could help quite a bit.
