Hi,
Needed some advice on selecting MBA colleges- reaches (colleges where I have a small chance) and safe-bets (colleges where I have very good chance) . My brief Profile is as follows-
Education Qualification- Masters in Dental Surgery
Highlights in Academics- 1. Was awarded a scholarship (only 20 people across the world are selected) to work with an international university last year.
2. Gold Medal in the masters program
3. Top 5 % of the batch in bachelors and school
Experience- 6 yrs including-
1. 5 years of clinical work experience
2. 2 years of research work experience as a associate editor of my dental-speciality's national journal
Extra curriculars- 1. Running marathons, and recently a half ironman
2. Volunteer work in raising awareness towards dental hygiene- methods and importance and felicitating treatment of under-privileged sectors at no-cost.
GMAT- 630
MBA- preferably form a 2 year college
Post-MBA- Healthcare sector-mainly strategy
I am not keen on taking the GMAT again.

Hi Neha,
Your work experience and volunteer work sound interesting...you certainly don't have the most traditional pre-MBA background so that could help you since schools are always looking for diverse classes. But since you have a less traditional background that also means you have to demonstrate very clear reasoning for why you need an MBA at this point in your career. Your GMAT is on the low end, and will put top programs in the US out of reach. Though you don't mention your undergrad GPA (which matters too), or the quant / verbal breakdown of your GMAT (quant is slightly more important). I know it's not what you want to hear but to improve your chances at top schools, I'd think about retaking the GMAT. Or, taking a pre-MBA course in a quantitative field. That will help to show that you are prepared to handle the coursework (again, especially since you have a less traditional career background). If retaking the GMAT is off the table, then look at US schools outside the top 30...Rutgers and Boston College I think both have healthcare specializations, other schools like Krannert or Babson or others in that range. You could also consider schools in Europe or Canada, if you're open to schools outside the US. Take a look at the average GMAT scores to get a sense of where you'll be competitive.
