Question

Hi,

My name is Atul Kaul(Indian Male) and i have written my GMAT exam and the scores are

Scaled score Percentile 
Quantitative 43 55
Verbal 32 66
Total 620 66
AWA 4 38

Please note this was my third attempt, previous scores are 560 and 600.

--> I have total work experience of 7 years in IT sector and am working with Barclays as BARCLAYS ANALYST LEVEL 3(team lead)
 --> Social Responsibility : I am an active member of Himalayan Succor Society (NGO)
 --> I can get my recommendations from one of my Clients(US based) and from a VP of my previous organization
 --> Other Extra curricular Activities at School,College and at my previous organization include public speaking, sports , competitions etc.

I am targeting courses with both technical and management credits. Following are the colleges I wish to apply for MIS course:
 1. Indiana University-Bloomington-Kelley 
 2. University of Arizona-Eller 
 3. CMU-Heinz College 
 4. Syracuse University 
 5. Texas A and M -Mays College

Can you please guide me if I should opt for the counseling and are there any chances of getting admit for the year 2016 or if you can suggest any other course for the above mentioned score.

Hi Atul,
Thanks for reaching out! Your chances depend on a number of factors...including some things you didn't list like your undergrad GPA and your career goals. But your work experience seems strong and it sounds like you'll have solid recs. I think you've got a pretty good list of schools, though your chances at each will depend on some of those factors I mentioned. Also, double check GMAT requirements, a quick search online tells me that Kelley requires a minimum of 640 on the GMAT for their MIS program. Thanks for the response.

I dropped an email to Kelly adcom and here is what they had to say:

Hi Hallie,

I was going through the links provided by you as found that the minimum gmat score for MIS applications is 640 and I've got 620.

Shall I still apply for the course with this score?

Hi Atul,
Well that's good to know it's not a hard requirement...so yes, you can still apply to Kelley. Though with a GMAT score below their recommended minimum, you're going to need to be very competitive in all the other application components. And it could still be a reach so definitely plan on applying to other schools too. By the way, be sure to check your spelling, especially when you email with the school - it's Kelley, not Kelly

Can you please clarify one thing :

I have 8 years if experience in IT and if I get admit in one of the above mentioned schools will I be representing the student having above average age and experience?

Yes, likely so, but it depends on the school of course. For instance, here is Kelley's class profile where you'll see that the average years experience there is 5 years:
