I am preparing to apply to graduate school for Fall 2017 and would appreciate any input you can provide on my profile.
Age: 36
Nationality: USA (Asian)
GMAT:
1st attempt: 630 [Verbal-35, Quant-42, IR-6, AWA-still waiting]
Academics:
B.S Construction Management - University of Washington - 3.1 GPA
Professional Experience:[2009 - present]
Project Engineer at General Construction Firm, South Korea 2+ Years
Project Consultant at Construction Consulting Firm - Specialty in Green Building (LEED AP), South Korea 3+ Years
Self-Owned Business (F&B Industry), 2 Years
Academic/Career Goals:
Looking at Masters in Real Estate/Development or MBA-Real Estate Programs.
Prospective Universities:
University of Washington (Runstad), USC (Sol), University of Wisconsin, NYU (Schack)
With a 630 GMAT score and given my profile, would that be adequate to apply to the above mentioned schools? I am considering retaking the exam, but am wondering how my current profile stacks up. I would greatly appreciate any evaluation or input you could provide me with.

Hi there!
Did you only take the GMAT once? If so, I encourage you to give it one more shot, you may see a slight boost just from being more used to the exam, especially if you do some focused studying before then. Your GPA is good, but not great, so that makes me think a higher GMAT would help your chances. Your work experience sounds great -- good progression from a technical engineering role to consulting to now running own business, that's great. Plus experience working outside the US. And definitely experience that will transfer well to your post-MBA goal.
With your current GMAT, your just at the low end of the middle 80% for USC and Washington, and NYU could be a slight stretch. So I think your score is adequate, but if you can improve it, it can't hurt.
How are your extracurriculars / activities outside work and leadership? Those areas are considered as well for MBA programs.
