Hi there - it's still early days for me as I plan to apply in 2019 and attend in 2020. However, I would like to get a sense of my current profile and also what I can do to plug the gaps in my profile prior to applying. Your insights will be much appreciated!
Background Information:
Will be 26 years old when applying, and 27 when attending.
Female. Chinese Canadian (born in China but moved to Canada at a very young age).
Education:
Ivey Business School at Western University (in Canada) for undergrad. GPA 3.7.
GMAT
First attempt: 700 (Q47, V38). Taking it again in 3 weeks and expect to get 720-740 based on my practice exams.
Work Experience
Spent 1 year working at the Toronto office of BlackRock straight out of undergrad. Took 3 months off to attend a coding bootcamp. Now working at Restaurant Brands International (RBI)'s Tim Hortons brand in an analytics role. Expect to get promoted at the company within the next few months.
Other
Side photography business (photography is a passion of mine). Marathon runner.
Volunteer
I feel that this is the area that I really need to improve upon. I'm currently a volunteer with an organization dedicated to empowering women in business but have nothing to show for it. I don't expect that this position will be great in helping me tell a story in my essays. I'm currently looking for other opportunities to help lower-income women and youth, which is something that I'm very passionate about.
Target Schools
Harvard, Stanford, Booth, Kellogg, Columbia, Sloan.

Thanks for writing in. Super-interesting profile and I LOVE that you are planning so far in advance. So schools are going to really like your 3.7. This will work in your favor. If you can deliver that and a 730+, that will make you very attractive. I think if you can stay at Tim Horton's for at least one more year and up your extracurriculars, there's no reason not to apply next year instead of 2019.
Of the schools on your list, I feel best about your chances at Booth and Kellogg, but both might be hard with a 700. There will also be perhaps more pressure on your recommenders given your work history, so make sure you nail those. I'd love to see you add a few safer options. But we haven't talked about your goals and what might make the most sense. My suggestion is that you set up a free consultation with us once you've taken the GMAT again and have that updated score. Then we can give you more personalized advice in a 1:1 environment.
