Hello,
I am going to be graduating next semester from my undergraduate institution and would greatly appreciate any & all feedback on my profile. I am planning to apply to several top deferred enrollment programs in the US.
Demographics: White male; first generation college student; parents immigrated to the U.S. to escape genocide
Education: Tremendously far-from-ranked state university (It was my cheapest option; I was young and afraid of taking on a lot of debt by attending a top 50 school); expecting to finish at or slightly above a 3.5 GPA; Business major with a mathematics minor (I took several additional quantitative courses than what my university required for the minor, which included Calculus III, Linear Algebra, etc.)
GMAT: 740 (I have some time to retake it and I could possibly do better - should I try, or should I just make sure I get those As for my final semester?)
Work experience: Part-time corporate tax internship during my spring semester of junior year at a mid-cap public healthcare company; full-time spring internship (for which I took a gap semester during what was supposed to be my spring semester of senior year) at a moderately prestigious/well-known asset management company; full-time summer equity research intern at a prestigious financial services firm.
Extracurricular activities:
President of university's finance club: Helped expand the club's memberships from a few members to dozens of newer business students, helping to teach them financial concepts, modeling skills, navigation and research in software like the Bloomberg terminal, etc.
-Brought the club to stock pitch & financial modeling competitions hosted by universities in the region, where we competed against other universities
-Left behind a purposeful club with a strong campus presence that was almost unknown to students beforehand
-Volunteer member of local "Code for America" chapter, where I provided assistance with multiple computer programming projects that are now being utilized by local governments to assist citizens (I know I haven't said very much - I'd like to provide more details for you, but I want to conserve my anonymity on these forums)
-I also have one independently-written paper published in an academic journal in my field.
Post-MBA Goals: Begin a career in either investment banking, or at an emerging markets hedge fund
Target deferred enrollment programs: Sloan, HBS, Columbia, Yale, Stanford
Be brunt - do I have any shot at these top schools? Thanks in advance for your input.
