Wharton MBA TBD & Interview Questions: A Review of 18 MBA Interview Debriefs


Hello MBA aspirants!

I recently went through around eighteen (18) Wharton MBA interview debriefs posted so far at GMAT Club since 2018. All who have applied and interviewed for Wharton MBA program should know that the Wharton MBA interview is completely a different beast. It is not a conventional one on one interview rather a team-based discussion usually called TBD.

Wharton gave students a prompt with the interview invites (something pretty generic that anyone could do, apparently, with no right answer). After that, the student go into interview day with five other fellow aspirants to present their idea, then the six of team members discuss and have to come up with a proposal/presentation. The team has 5 minutes to present. A total of 35 minutes is allocated for the complete activity/discussion. Two people (Either second year students or members of adcom) will be watching or observing the entire time. After that, each person of the TBD will have a 10-minute one-on-one interview with one of the students or person observing the TBD. So, this is something different with Wharton interview which not everyone knows before applying for the Wharton MBA.

I usually wanted to get all the interview questions but because of the different scenario here with Wharton I could hardly find a number of classic interview questions. That means a one-on-one interview in Wharton is a minor while TBD is a major activity. Still, I was able to find some questions that an interviewee may be asked in one-on-one interview. In the following section I am posting all interview questions.

1. Walk me through your resume / Tell me about yourself
2. Why MBA?
3. Why Wharton?
4. Why MBA Now?
5. Tell me about a time you failed
6. Tell me about a time you shown leadership
7. What are your hobbies?
8. What are you looking to do post MBA?
9. Show some examples of leadership outside of work
10. What kind of manager you are?
11. At what point in your career progression will you feel like I've "made it”.
12. Tell me about your extra-curricular activities?
13. Any question you may want to ask?
