Say I have a low gpa, good test scores, and some less-than-standard B-school work experience/extracurriculars.
- STATS -
-Mid 20's
-Asian Female
-790 GMAT
-Undergraduate in Math & EECS with low(ish) GPA of 3.2/4.0 at MIT (it's on a 5.0 scale but I adjusted it). It's about on the 50 percentile line.
-Master's in CS at MIT with GPA of 4.0/4.0
-Interned at google, startups, prop shops
-Worked at a top high frequency trading firm for two years post graduation
-Co-founded online business with one other person, profits ~$60k/year
-Extracurriculars: various leadership positions in small on-campus societies (but nothing major)

On the surface it looks like you have a pretty good shot. I say pretty good because admissions at HBS is a bit of a crapshoot, but you have a great profile:
awesome GMAT (almost too good), Female, MIT, Google, and some successful entrepreneurial activity
Your GPA isn't the greatest, but you did very well in grad school, which I think will mitigate (if there really are any) academic concerns. I am not an admissions expert by any means, but I think your application success will come down to execution. You have all the pieces, now you just need to make everything fit.

Hi there,
On the surface, the basic components of your application are fine.
Academics: Your GMAT is, like the other post mentioned, [almost too] good. Your GPA, while on the slightly lower side, is from a great school with a diverse background and your master's program easily addresses any doubt they may have about your ability to handle rigorous academics.
Extracurriculars: While your on campus activities in undergrad are on the average side (per your assessment), they aren't as important as your activities since and are either a benefactor or victim of the story you weave around it. Were there any activities in undergrad that really stood out to you or that you've continued in at least a tangential fashion since?
Professionally: Ok, here we'll need a little more information. What did you exactly do for the trading firm, Google, start ups, etc.? Your professional story is differentiated not by the titles and brands on your resume, but by the activities that convey key themes in your application. However, I think a lot of these themes can be covered by your entrepreneurial forays and whatever your full time jobs leave off the table, your start up can fill in.
Overall, yes, HBS is a particularly difficult program to assess odds at but I believe you have a better than average chance.
