I've been deciding between CBS FT and CBS EMBA (PT) for over 4 months, so I can definitely give you some feedback. Also today (June 2) is the deadline for CBS' second deposit.
I'm based in Philly and I've talked to 20+ FT students and 10+ EMBA students and attended a couple of class visits/admitted student events/happy hours/student organized conference, basically did my research. I'm also not interested in finance/investment, my career path has been in digital marketing/automotive and I'm also interested in consulting. I'm currently making about $120k so it was a tough decision for me.
I think if you are "interested in exploring consulting and other international careers", a full time program is a must. mgg234 explained the situation really nicely and it is a personal choice you have to make, to add a few more points that have not been brought up yet:
FT:
- meet amazing people from all over the world. In PT it's tough because it's mostly regional people. (For CBS it is mostly NYC finance type)
- must for job switchers into consulting/banking. (industries with clear recruiting structure)
PT:
- can still switch jobs but needs tons more individual efforts. But I've talked to many CBS EMBAs who switched into MBB/Google/Amazon. They are in the different track though.
- can still hang out with FT students if you have the time to be on campus a lot, most people don't.
- the percentage of your classmates who are not as committed as you is higher than FT.
- people are generally more tired/stressed.
- lots of people are sponsored.
I was extremely close to switch to EMBA (have all documents ready) but eventually thought/hope the FT experience would be worth the time/money investment. Best of luck and hope to see you on campus this August.
