Hi all,
In Round 1 I was admitted to a top 5 program with NO scholarship / fellowship. I'm otherwise really excited about the school.
Subsequently, I put in an application to a different M7 school in Rd 2, with hopes of getting a scholarship and trying to leverage that against the first school to get some money out of them
I was invited to interview with this second school, and the interview is next week.
Realistically, how likely is my strategy to work? I'm an international student and I'm already underway with the visa process for school 1.
If there's no hope of my scholarship with school 2 helping to get me some dough from school 1, I'm not sure I should bother going through the interview process and wasting everybody's time. Also - I'm more than aware that I may not get a scholarship from school 2 (in which case this whole point is moot).
But in case I do get a scholarship - is this likely to actually get me anything from the first school? In my position, would you guys go through the interview process?

Things to consider:
- Which top 5 school are you trying to get money from? Some are more lenient than others.
- Whether the scholarships are even available to international students. A lot of times they aren't.
- Fewer people get scholarships in R2 than in R1

Good points, thanks for that.
It's a top 5 that's not H or S, if that changes things...?
Part of the reason I'm being quite cagey is because I'm not sure whether schools frown on this sort of behavior.
In fact, am I at risk of having my original offer rescinded if I try to play this game? (I have already paid the deposit for the first choice)
