How would you get a work permit and visa to work in the US? I think it would be pretty hard to do, esp just after graduating.

As to the masters degree vs MBA, I think the MBA carries more weight ESP with an internship, fixing more time to locate a job and get a professional network setup. However Illinois MBA is not really a top 10, 20 or even 40... Getting a job being an international applicant will have some bumps. Only about half of the grads had a job lined up at graduation. 80% 3 months after.

I would hate to pay full price for it. Would either try something higher rated or shoot for scholarship.

One crazy idea could be to get an MA that you got a scholarship for and then if you can't find a job, apply for an MBA and hopefully get into a better program or get a scholarship.

Tsinghua, period. Tsinghua has brand recognition across East Asia, and equivalent to "Stanford" in China. Many U.S. schools and employers recognize the Tsinghua brand.

Your thoughts echo what I currently feel. A last crazy option will be one that you described, masters then on to an MBA. I just cant get a proper valuation of the MA in Global Management program at Thunderbird, in term of the job offers it can get and its reputation all over. If you know anything about it and can share it would be great.

Anyways, going for some colleges in round three, aiming for better ones than Illinois so lets see.

I understand Tsinghua reputation but am concerned about its local sphere of influence in China. Even with a Tsinghua MBA I imagine its hard to find a job in China for an international student (without advanced chinese language skills). Do correct me if i am wrong here.

I have heard about Tsinghua very similar feedback - this was the elite school of the communist party. The school does not care as much about rankings/recognition in the western rankings as they simply don't need to due to a strong local name/recognition. At the same time, I can see how being an outsider can make it tough to break through the stigma. I don't think you have to have strong Mandarin proficiency to attend but job-wise, it depends, and I think concerns are in order to research with the school and current students - get an accurate picture. It may be that the school finds you a job in Goldman Sachs China or CIBIC or something like that.... but it is also possible you will graduate with 30 days to find a job and will be forced to leave without a work permit shortly after (I simply don't know what the current policy is).

One thing I agree in, is that the Tsinghua is definitely the most exciting school on your list.

Good Luck!

The more I look at Tsinghua, the more I like it: https://gmba.sem.tsinghua.edu.cn/content ... iters.html
That is quite an impressive list of employers and recruiters. I would reach out to a student ASAP (from your background/country) and see if there are any red flags related to your situation but otherwise, it seems you may have lucked out....

A) Tsinghua Global MBA Program: Accepted for MBA with no Scholarship. Two year program.

B) Singapore Management University: Accepted for MBA with $10,000 Scholarship. One year program.

Looking for a career in finance and banking after college. Any suggestions?

I would suggest that you start a new discussion about your specific situation. You want to indicate how much experience you have and what industry/job you are coming from.

PS. Congratulations!

I have a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineer from Purdue University. I have two years of experience in the Automobile Manufacturing industry and one year of experience in the Tourism industry. I am looking to get into the financial and banking industry after my MBA. Also I am looking to settle down in either Singapore or Hong Kong afterwards. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
