Hi everyone,
Hi everyone,
I've been accepted to MIF at ESSEC Paris and IE Madrid!!
At the moment, I am unsure on which one to choose so I would like to get some opinions and solid facts about the two programs, university, reputation, placement... anything that might help me make this decision.
What do you guys think?
IE has recently been excluded from the 2018 FT rankings due to irregularities. Do you think that should affect my decision?
Afterwards I want to work at PE, IB or Financial consulting!! Haven't decided the country yet but will probably stay in Europe.
Backgroud: I'm a Brazilian international student who has done his bachelor at Rotterdam School of Management. I've previously lived in Belgium when in high school.
Thanks in advance for the feedback!!
Hi
MatheusBeraldoFirst congrats on admission !
So you lived in Belgium ?
There is a good chance you know French

On the other hand as Brazilian you are speaking Portuguese which similar to Spanish to some extent.
So regarding socializing out of studies both are suitable for you

I can see IE has several options regarding MIF but I assume your is pre experience, "ordinary" MIF.
MAF option looks interesting, also.
Ok regarding duration they are both 15 months long.
You mention rankings and as you obviously like FT

as you should, FT ranks IE as 3. and ESSEC on 23. place in European business school rankings for 2017.
How about that ?
Now just for pre experience MIF in 2017., FT ranks them as ESSEC being 3. versus being 7. in 2016. and IE being 8. versus being 3. year before.
So according to FT ESSEC surpassed IE in one year by jumping 4 places.
However IE still had better salary increase 80% vs. 64% that ESSEC had.
Then I went to Economist tool to compare both schools and guess what ESSEC was not even ranked, I guess because of some irregularity in reporting

QS World University MIF for 2018 ranks ESSEC on 10. place vs. IE on 12. place, not much of difference.
For getting job at IB in tier one investment banks IE rank on 6. vs ESSEC 22. place according to eFinancialCareers.
I went extra mile and investigated why IE was excluded from FT rankings this year, and real reason is rather stupid, their alumni simply didnt received questionaires from FT via email.
When this was discovered it was already to late for them to respond and be included in this year rankings

So that was just a computer glitch, although I would say that IE apparently dont care much about FT rankings which is marketing and branding miss for them. At least this year.
They will back next year new dean of IE Martin Boehm made sure that doesnt happen again.
I went to both curriculums and they are pretty much similar, except FinTech route at IE which I find very interesting.
Now international exposure during studies ESSEC offers Paris and Singapore, thats fine, but IE wins with Frankfurt, London and NY.
There is optional intership at ESSEC 4-6 months if you are up to that.
All in all, they are pretty close, but I would say that IE is still slightly better choice, at least I would rather go there.
That being said you cannot go wrong with ESSEC either if you decide to go there.
Regarding employment in EU both will accomplish that.
If you are sure now that you would go to IB, IE is better choice.
Good luck and keep us posted with your final decision
