Hey everyone!
I have been admitted into ESSEC and Bocconi for the MSc Finance program and I have to choose between the two. Please help!
ESSEC:
Pros-
1. Paris>Milan for Finance
2. 2 year post study work visa
Cons-
1. It is a forced 2 year program since I have a 3 year bachelor's degree.
2. Bad London placements
Bocconi:
Pros-
1. Better reputation across Europe (excl france) and in London
2. Evenly split 2 year program
Cons-
1. Only 6-12 month post study work visa
2. Italy's economy is struggling
Factors to consider:
A. I have very less work ex in the field so I prefer the 2 year program for it's internship opportunities.
B. I am Non-EU and I don't know either of the languages. But I intend to start learning them and have a good command over the language by the end of my studies.
I would love to hear your opinions!

I'm a student from ESSEC Business School in this track. I will finish in may.
Some points to consider from my point of view:
- ESSEC Master in Finance program grants an official Master diploma, recognized by French Ministry of Education (and Europe), which means you can stay for an extra year after the end of your studies to look for a job (on top of the time of your studies), on top of the actual value of an official diploma.
- The program is better ranked by FT year after year than Bocconi.
- Placements in London are quite good. There is a broad alumni network of MIF graduates as well as ESSEC alumni in general. Many of them are working in important investment banks. This year, in my cohort, we will have a J.P. Morgan graduate + J.P. Morgan Summer + Credit Suisse summer + Nomura Summer (this one made the 2 years program) + RBC Summer and other banks (IBD and market !).
- If you want to learn and perfect the language, a 2 years program will allow you to do so more than a 1 year program (1 year including courses is quite limited) + ESSEC provides with French lessons included on the tuition fee.
- Very useful partnership with Alumneye is unique among other Masters in Finance. This will be extremely useful because I know that
investment banks are some of the most competitive places to get into in the world. The other Masters in Finance do not offer this
kind of training.
Concerning me, I will do an internship at EY Corporate Finance in M&A (FIG team) from 1st July to 31st December 2019. I will also do a second internship (6 months offcycle) after this one. Indeed, and VERY IMPORTANT, ESSEC allows us to do 2 internships the second year.
So, if you do the 2 years program, you will be able to do 3 internships : 1 the first year and 2 the second year. You will be prepared for a full-time job and it will be appreciated in this competitive market !
