HEC Paris (20% scholarship) vs Insead (10% scholarship)

Question

Hello folks,

Hope you could help with this: I am 34 year old male, coming from Latin America and from the Non profit sector. I got admitted both to Insead and Hec and I am trying to decide which school to choose.

I am aware that Insead if the n1 brand in europe, an hec has just recently made to the world top 10 ranking.

However, Money is an important concern since I have very few resources and I intend to remain in the non profit sector after the Mba. My plan is to work in France for a couple of years and then comeback to latin America. I speak fluent French and have the french Passport.

As for the scholarships offered, we are talking of a around 20k euros difference - Insead being more expensive.

Any ideas on this? Would deeply appreciate all the inputs!

Hey,

Congratulations on your admits! Both schools are excellent and you can't go wrong choosing either. Having said that, finances is a very personal issue and only you can decide how much debt you would like to take on. Usually, it takes anywhere between 4-7 years to pay back one's education loan. You have the added pressure of working in a non-profit sector, where the pay is lower. 
My recommendation is to discuss this issue with INSEAD's team, maybe they can make room to match HEC's scholarship. If not, don't get swept away by the brand. Reevaluate your finances and check if you can handle the load of the loan burden.

Congratulations for admits to INSEAD and HEC! I guess INSEAD has much better international recognition outside Europe.

I understand you are concerned about $20K and it is a decent amount of money to think about, esp someone from a non-profit environment. However, the total cost of attendance, tuition, and opportunity cost is likely over $200K so this is a 10% of the iceberg here. Your INSEAD brand will be helpful in your career, whether that's fundraising or engaging with your alum community or building credibility with the board or finally, giving you options to do something else later in the career.

Instead is the #1 probagram in EU and likely outside of the US, so seems to carry some more value hopefully. If you are planning to save the most money, my suggestion would be skipping the MBA and taking some courses from HBX or other online providers.

From my point of view, Hec is more recognized in France where you want to stay.

We are talking here that Insead is n1 outside Europe, maybe the US, and Asia. But those are not markets you are interested in.

So regarding the brand recognition, like I said, I think would be better for you HEC to stay IN FRANCE
