I've been admitted to Cornell Johnson (full ride) and have been waitlisted at Fuqua and Darden. I currently work at a small consulting firm as a tech consultant and my post-MBA goal is strategy consulting in New York City - preferably MBB but okay with T2 firm. I am debating whether to matriculate to Cornell this fall, matriculate to Darden/Fuqua (if I can get off the WL), or reapply to other schools this fall.
Cornell Johnson- Main concern with Johnson is its consulting placements in NYC, which does bother me a bit. Based on my conversations with students/alums, seems like I'll have a better chance at T2 in NYC. Johnson isn't a core school of BCG.
- Unsure how strong consulting prep is
- Given the uncertainty in the economy due to Covid-19, will firms severely limit their hiring because Johnson is ranked lower than Fuqua/Darden?
Fuqua/Darden-Stronger MBB placements than Johnson, but placements in NYC aren't as strong as placements in the South. Unsure what the comparison for MBB placements in NYC between Fuqua/Darden and Johnson is.
-Given that scholarships are limited for applicants that are admitted off the WL, is it worth choosing these two schools at full sticker price vs. full ride at Johnson?
Reapply in the Fall- Apply to stronger consulting schools (with a good cultural fit) that I did not apply to this year: Kellogg, Tuck and Yale SOM.
- This fall might be very competitive and I might even end up with worse acceptances than this year
- Given the covid-19 situation, matriculating next fall means a higher chance for a "traditional" MBA experience with trips, in-person activities etc.
- I have had ~ 6 years of experience, so waiting an additional year might feel like a delay.
Thank you in advance!
