Hi Everyone,
Wanting to hear your thoughts on Kellogg Miami vs Fuqua, both EMBA. I got admits from both without scholarships. Both have once a month residency which is a big plus for me. Here is my profile:
- 12+ yrs work experience.
- Have family commitments so prefer once a month residency.
- Reason for MBA: Looking to make a move to consulting or a lateral move to a different organization (in corporate strategy) post-mba.
- Self funding.
- Age: mid 30's
I am leaning towards Fuqua because of the following reasons:
- Although the brand name is awesome, I am not sure if Kellogg Miami campus would provide on and off campus recruitment/networking opportunities as Fuqua does.
- The culture and cohort at Kellogg Miami seems to be focussed on staying in their current organization/function, which doesn't help my case.
- Kellogg Miami is ~$70k more expensive. I am ok with this if it pays off in long run.
Would love to hear thoughts to validate/invalidate these reasons.

EMBA rarely provides a scholarship unfortunately... so it would be there rare for someone text we get money to go.
EMBA is a bit tricky. Your biggest network will be your classmates and of course alumni of that program and the greater Fuqua community but your immediate network is your classmates. I would thinking consider which program is more likely to half the type of folks who you would like to have a new network. Which program is bigger?
I kind of agree with you in terms of the Miami campus and not being close to the mothership. Covered brand is very strong but it’s not the same as being in Chicago or Evanston. My guess would be that the Miami campus was targeting a lot of the South America candidates?
Some thing I cannot comment on is how helpful EMBA is with consulting. This would be something to research with current students and run your career goals by them. Consulting is a pyramid. That’s how they make money and there’s only so many spots at the top and a lot more for 28-year-olds looking to take an associate position. There are specialists and industry roles and consulting for sure. But usually those don’t require an executive MBA. I would encourage you to research how traditional of a path it is to go from an executive MBA to a consulting role. Maybe it’s very straightforward and easy but I just don’t want to make that assumption.

Thanks bb. This is very helpful. Yeah looking at the the Miami cohort it sure looks like the Miami campus is targeting SAmerican students. Good point on who would I be naturally connecting more in my cohort. I should do that research.
The good thing about Fuqua is that they don't seem to discriminate between FT MBA & EMBA on consulting projects/opportunities. Such projects would be in addition to the usual work load. I couldn't seem to find any such opportunity interacting with Kellogg CMC or Adcom.
Yes, I am REALLY leaning towards Fuqua after your feedback. My only hesitation is that if I am not able to convert any opportunity from the school network, the Kellogg brand would help me getting opportunities in the open market. Do you think the Fuqua brand is also strong enough to help me in the open market, if the situation arrives?
