You have asked this before: https://gmatclub.com/forum/duke-vs-nyu- ... 55182.html ... Why again?

They are similar but not the same as this post compared Cornell instead of NYU (other post) to Duke.

In this case, Duke (Fuqua) is considered the overall better program. Cornell (Johnson) is widely respected, but if i were categorizing programs VERY broadly, I would say it goes as follows:

Tier I: Harvard, Wharton, Booth, etc. (M7)
Tier II: Fuqua, Haas, Stern, etc.
Tier III: Johnson, McDonough, etc.

In the case of parent universities, they could be somewhat on far. Cornell is obviously an Ivy League school and Duke in considered a top-tier non-Ivy League School. They have their differences geographically, architecturally, etc. and there are a lot to consider in terms of differences in graduate schools, resources, etc.

At the MBA level, Fuqua is probably the right choice from a brand/prestige perspective, but it all depends on your priorities and what kind of two year experience you desire.

JohnnyBlaze Your comment here (https://gmatclub.com/forum/duke-vs-nyu- ... l#p2767189) on this similar thread was helpful in knowing what most people think. Unbiased thoughts from a Cornell alum on this thread would be much appreciated.

Also, I've read your review on Cornell Johnson. I was wondering whether Cornell Johnson has seen any significant changes (good or bad) since your graduation in 2014. Also, is Fuqua considered a tier above Johnson overall for MBA? How about Duke vs Cornell overall?

Thanks!

Fuqua is ranked higher than Johnson, but the difference isn't very large. However the Fuqua alums I speak with love their program, the opposite of the Johnson alums who are tepid at best.

Duke v Cornell as a whole is a different story, internationally Cornell has the edge, but domestically it's a much harder call that could go either way depending on program.

It's very hard to say if Johnson got worse or better since I graduated. Johnson alumni affairs barely exists and the school only communicates with alums 1 - 2x a year. Once MBAs graduate, you hear very little from the MBA program, apart from pleas for money and invites with broken links and wrong dates. So, I have no idea if it has gotten better or worse. My guess would be status quo with an overwhelming reliance on the ivy league parent and retaining the MBA safety school brand.
