Hello Gmatclub community!
Hope you are all well!
So here is my dilemma: I have been accepted at both HEC Paris and Dartmouth Tuck (both beginning fall 2022) and I am struggling to make a final decision.
I'll be attending business school with my family (partner and two young kids), and our strong preference, culturally, is to the US. I am French (it helps with HEC), with 7 years of exp in corporate finance in CPG + Manufacturing in different continents (US, Europe, South America).
My goal is to stay in corporate finance or move towards general management in either tech or CPG/Retail. Not interested in consulting or IB. For both schools, I am pretty confident I'll find a good job that matches my aspirations.
Both schools gave me OK scholarships (approximately the same % in terms of the total amount of tuition fees - slightly bigger with Tuck).
As I said, even though I am French, we strongly favor the US and the opportunity to potentially stay long-term in the US is really appealing to us. However, the total cost of attendance in the US is real high, and I'd probably leave Tuck with a +100/120k in debt, while I'd probably be debt-free when leaving HEC (thanks to savings). Additionally, funding possibilities for the US are not as easy to get for me as they are for HEC, and I will probably live on a much tighter budget at Tuck vs HEC.
1. Financials: considering that I'd be supporting a family of four and that we'd love to settle in the North-Eastern region of the US after school, do you guys think going to Tuck is worth paying 5 to 6 years of bonuses + high monthly loan payments? Money is quite important in my case, as my spouse will not be allowed to work in the US, and I don't really want to choose a path that's going to exhaust us financially. I have a clear picture of salary growth in France after 3 to 5 years after MBA but I am not as sure with the US, and a much higher level of salary 5 years after school in the US might eclipse this extra 100k in debt.
2. Networks: Tuck is known mostly in the US, HEC mostly in Europe (and somewhat in Asia). I don't feel there is a clear winner, and I feel I'd be well served in both cases. Tuck's network in the US is really great though.
What do you guys think?
Thanks a lot for the help!!!
