Congrats on your admits!
EMBA is A serious investment. It’s years of your life and lots of money. Do you want to make sure that you can justify it with more than just self development. I am by the way a huge fan of self development and learning but with so many opportunities, there are better choices and worse.
I would consider where you have a work permit. Most executive programs in the US do not provide you H1B a work permit and getting recruited from Germany to work in the US is not the cleanest pass either. I’m more likely scenario would be starting to work for a company in Germany and then shifting to the US office. Another likely next step for someone in your shoes would be to get a promotion within your company or your industry.
My suggestion for you would be to look at the most likely recruiting opportunities. This would be your classmates. No one will help you more will be willing to go out out of the way to help you more than your classmates. You can always reach out to alumni and other folks but there was a cold calls and it will take time to build those relationships. However, your classmates could introduce you to your future employer or could vouch for you or could hire you.
So consider which program is bigger. Not which school has the most alumni but which program actually has the most people in the class that you would get to meet. Consider where they’re from. If a whole bunch of them are from the Middle East and you’re not planning to work there, then you won’t have a lot of touch points with them. I’m sure they’re also very accomplished people and present interesting opportunities for networking. You will benefit from either program but you know what I mean in terms of target industries and target locations.
I would also try to get in touch with a couple of the current students and maybe even ask the admissions team to connect you. This would be great contacts since you can potentially leverage them down the road for networking and staying in touch.
Asked to the name recognition, I agree with your evaluation but I don’t think an employer will hire you just because you have Cambridge versus Kellogg brand. I can also see some value from going to a local program since you can connect with people outside of school…. Easier to participate in other local activities rather than having to fly to London.
I think I’m leaning towards doing the local program in Germany 😎
