Hey everyone!
I'm in the fortunate position to be admitted to CBS and Kellogg (2-year MBA in both cases). While I'm thrilled with the admits, I would be lying if I said I wasn't losing sleep deciding between the two schools. I received a $40K total scholarship at Kellogg, and none at CBS, but I would be willing to forego that if CBS is ultimately where I see myself being happier (with both experience and career outcome)
Current Profile
- Live in India, but did my undergrad in the US and UK (Economics)
- Management Consultant for 3.5 years, then decided to foray into something more fun and tech-focused
- Product Manager at a Fantasy Gaming company (current, will be 1.5 years upon matriculation)
Career Goals
- Hoping to stay in Product Management in Big Tech or growth-stage startups with products I relate to
- Long term, I want to be an entrepreneur (ideas permitting)
I know that Kellogg may have a slight edge in terms of more breadth w.r.t curriculum and possibly tech recruitment opportunities (not entirely sure about this one), but can't help feel like being in NYC may offset that. Also, CBS seems to have a more well-known and reputed brand name in Asia, which is ultimately where I see myself 5 years down the line.
Was hoping some existing CBS / Kellogg students and alums could shed some insights that could aid the decision-making process! As an international with no development background, a little concerned where I could get the best results in terms of PM recruitment post-graduation. Will going to CBS, which is seems less reputed for Tech, hurt my chances here?

Congratulations on your results! That's very strong R1 accomplishments!
For the past 2-3 years, I keep hearing about how Kellogg is really the Product Management program and how well it is done. Some folks feel that if you are looking for a PM role, Kellogg would be #1 choice. The tech recruiting and focus are really sharp and you have the pre-built pathways into MSFT, FB, AAPL, AMZN, and other stock tickers
I feel Columbia is in a microcosm of its own - very much the NYC school that places in NYC and focuses on its needs and there is a lot in New York. You will find a bit of everything and a strong base of alums. The Columbia program is more international than Kellogg (one of the highest % of international students in the M7). For someone in New York, Columbia is a fantastic opportunity. You remain connected to the community. Columbia is huge in New York, esp due to large undergrad population and aspirations.
As to being in Asia in 5 years, I hear you. However, I wonder if having Columbia + Microsoft + Google vs. Kellogg + Microsoft + Google will be making much of a difference? You can network with alums and that has value but I feel 5 years out of school, people won't be really looking at your BSchool as much.

Thanks for the insights bb! Definitely a tough decision - hoping to understand as many viewpoints as I can and speak to a few alums before I make a decision between the two
