Fortunate to have been accepted to three Full time MBA programs - Kellogg, Tuck, and LBS.

Demographic - Indian
Work ex - 4 years at matriculation; IB
Post MBA - Consulting
No scholarships; currently location-agnostic

Which one would you choose and why?

Do you want to be in the US or Europe? Do you want to be in close proximity to a city or a small cozy college town? Is an Ivy League pedigree important to you? Do you want to be a big fish in a smaller pond or one of many fishes? Questions to ask :)

I agree and would try to negotiate with Tuck for a scholarship. Rankings are nitpicking at the point... all are incredible schools, so go where you find the personal fit to be the best.

On another note, I have heard very positive things about Tuck's career series for MBB specifically, although I am sure all of the schools place well/as mentioned above... it is a bit of a crapshoot.

Thanks, bb! Really appreciate your detailed thoughts.

I am leaning toward Kellogg as well, based on similar arguments to yours. I would not want to go back to IB since that's one of the main reasons I'm pursuing an MBA, so what alternate options would you think are open to Internations, as a backup to Consulting? i know that tech hires internationals, but I have no tech background or credentials. I welcome your insights!

Plus - I'm planning on reaching out to Kellogg for a scholarship. i understand they do not negotiate a lot (and I have no other scholarships to negotiate with anyway), but do you have any tips on reaching out to ask for a scholarship? Perhaps in some way leverage my LBS and Tuck admits (super-long shot, ik, but the worst case scenario is they No!).

Congratulations. That’s pretty impressive!

I would recommend Tuck or Kellogg. It’s a much better pay in the US food consultant. You’ll basically make double the money which will be very helpful and very important during your first three years. I know some people argue that Europe has better work and life balance in all of that crap but after being in school for two years and having zero work, the last thing you want is a balance at half pay 😂 that is the feedback I’ve heard from a number of students, including one recent London business school graduate…

Between Kellogg and Tuck, I think Kellogg has more benefits. I feel you may be able to get a scholarship consideration if you ask nicely at Tuck.

Keep in mind that consulting is a tough industry to get into. There’s a lot of competition among the top business schools. You always want to think about Plan B as well because you never know what kind of environment you will be graduating into…. But I feel Kellogg will prepare you for anything. Their focus tends to be more product management and marketing but consulting is strong too. Placement and job numbers for consulting tend to reflect purely the caliber of students among the top 20 schools. For other industries, it’s a combination and for tech the career services tend to play a bigger role. If you fall back on the investment banking, I feel that will be mostly recruiting off campus for either program.

You can check this topic for scholarship discussion and negotiation… but as you pointed out, there’s and there’s not a whole lot of reasons for them to give you one, but it doesn’t hurt to ask either.

Take a two step decision:

1. LBS vs Tuck/Kellogg;

Then if needed:

2. Tuck vs Kellogg

Regarding the second decision, that is if you need to take it:

Both Tuck and Kellogg are worlds apart, yet both equally good in their own way imo. It boils down to your personality type. Would you prefer to be part of a much larger cohort and alumni group (and by implication comparatively lesser cohesive group), or a much smaller but much more cohesive group? Dartmouth's alumni loyalty is second to none, but Tuck's is a much smaller network. This has implications both during your studies - you'll get to know each of your fewer classmates at a much deeper level, and after you graduate - over the years as you tap into your alumni network.

At the end, notwithstanding the implications of your personality type, you wouldn't go wrong selecting either of them over the other.

Hard to say. To be honest, I would choose none of them. I dream of Wharton, but it doesn't see to dream of me.
