I don’t see any reason to choose McDonough.

Looking at the outcomes and fast forwarding past your MBA experience which I’m sure will be very rewarding and rich at either of these programs and I think both will be an opportunity for you to grow and build a net work. However so many of the tech jobs are in Seattle or West Coast. (I know there is some in every city but Seattle is just such a powerhouse. I lived in Redmond and everyone on my street worth of Microsoft except me and one other guy and now living in East side, lots of people from Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and meta. The alumni base is also very focused and stays in Seattle to a large extent. I’m not saying people will be chasing it with jobs but having the net work of alumni and career services that kind help with referrals, I think you’ll have a lot more chances at getting a tech job. It’s not that foster has better classes or anything like that but just being in the mist of a tech city, you never really have much stronger chances to land a job. With a scholarship, I think it’s a pretty strong value proposition… I would say foster would be better even if you did not get a scholarship. 😇

Based on the information provided, it appears that UW Foster may be the better choice for you. The fact that you have already paid the deposit and orientation fees, as well as received a merit scholarship, makes it a more financially feasible option. Additionally, you have connections and support networks in DC, which can still be utilized even if you attend UW Foster in Seattle.

Furthermore, UW Foster has a strong reputation in the tech industry, which aligns with your post-MBA goals. The location in Seattle also provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities and a diverse community.

While Georgetown McDonough may have sentimental value, it does not seem to offer as many practical benefits for your situation. It may be worth considering other factors, such as the program curriculum and resources, to make a final decision.

Good luck. :)

Thank you so much for your input. I agree with using DC's connection and support networks while completing the MBA in Seattle.

Yes, Foster, it is. I have deposited the enrollment fees. Although later, Georgetown offered me a fairly decent amount. But looking long term, I believe Foster fits better with my goals and background and would bring more ROI.

Hello everyone,

Please help me decide to pick one out of these two schools.

UW Foster: In-state tuition and merit scholarships total around 50% of total tuition. I already paid the deposit and orientation fees of $2800 and received the F1 Visa.
Georgetown McDonough: No scholarship. I received the admission decision recently.

My background-

29 male single from New Zealand (not citizen, but permanent resident in NZ) and born in Bangladesh. Undergrad from a top uni in NZ. Work experience five years in NZ; 1 year non-profit, three years tech marketing, one-year telco. Currently marketing lead at Vodafone (leading telco worldwide) in New Zealand.

I studied for one exchange year in Washington, DC, during my undergrad. I have many friends, connections, and support networks, including family members in DC. This is why I have a soft corner for Georgetown McDonough.

Post-MBA goal: industry- tech and function- marketing. Roles- PM, PMM, brand manager at major tech companies. Plan B- consulting, but I heard the work-life balance is not outstanding.

Out of work, I love the outdoors big time. During the MBA, I want to make many friends/connections in a good collaborative community. School brand is also an essential factor. In the long run, I would like to stay in the US in a diverse city with a good community, at least for a few years. The other factor is hoping to find a life partner, so a good community (in or outside school) is important.

Thank you

Hi

Given the goals you mention, Foster would be the better option here.
