Hi bb

Thanks much for your time. If I'm approaching now (with no other admits in hand), do I mention about my interview invites for R2? Or would it not be wise to talk about R2 applications without a decision in hand?

And sorry about the spam - I didn't intend it. I'm not a regular user, and I assumed this was the procedure to notify people of a new post.

bb
Hi. Congratulations on your admit. And congratulations on your scholarship. This situation happens every year so it’s totally normal.

Schools do not like to negotiate scholarships as you can imagine. Recommend to you to consider scenarios of you getting into another school or not getting into another school in Round two.

If you don’t get anywhere, your chances are kind of the same. Paying a deposit doesn’t change a whole lot. If you do get in, you have a stronger much more real position and hopefully a choice.

I think you can approach now because additional scholarships will be awarded before the round two decisions are released and it will be slim pickings. I think you can be upfront about it and explain your situation and why you’re not able to fund the degree. I’m not sure if your situation is different than someway but a lot of people are borrowing money and taking out loans and is that just you not wanting to do that or are you not able to. So you need to have a proper argument as to why you need more financial aid. I would like to drive a nice car but I would not like to pay for it, usually doesn’t work very well … if you don’t have a strong argument, you may want to wait or you can shoot a argument and get a shut down it also doesn’t change a whole lot.

PS. This was posted not as the result of your spam tag

I'm with BB on this - everyone is taking out loans and trying to avoid debt, so the argument will need to be more well thought out for additional funds above 60% - which is a great scholarship BTW!

Paying the deposit won't change if they will/won't provide additional scholarships.

Most schools either post on their public Financing Your MBA page/tab a bit about seeking additional scholarships and may have specific ones they have vetted to be legit scholarships (not scams). If you do not find this info online, it could be in the admitted student portal or you can always ask if you cannot find it.

If it is about financial hardship, you can also ask about assistantships that you would be able to apply to within the b-school or university. Illustrating that you are willing to work for extra funding can also go a long way in stewardship with the adcom/scholarship committee.

I have a list of scholarship I typically share with our clients - email me [email protected] and I will send it over. :)
