Hi. Congratulations on your great offer and it looks like a generous scholarship.

I have to give you a huge credit for being open to waiting a year. I was in similar shoes in my day and waiting a year seemed like eternity 😂

While everything worked out for me, miraculously with plenty of divine intervention, I do think waiting a year wouldn’t be a problem per se for me and if you are looking to transition to tech, UNC would be a tougher place to pivot from. It’s great for consulting and finance but not tech, especially not in this market.

While you’re not guaranteed to get the job after business school, going to a place like Foster, it’s hard not to be surrounded by tech.

I think the risk is fairly low in terms of reapplying next year and you can still reapply to UNC. We’ve had many people apply year over year and get accepted to the same places not always with the same offers and scholarships but there are no issues with reapplying so I feel your UNC spot is somewhat safe. You can also ask about deferring. That’s not as common these days as during the pandemic but it may be an option if you have a good reason.

Would it be possible for you to go into tech UNC? Yes if you have a decent personal network that you can leverage. It’s not like employers are going to look at UNC and say this is not a tech school so we’re not going to take you in. That’s not the reason why people don’t go into tech from UNC but rather there no established pathways and there’s no established alumni base that can help you with questions and recruiting and referrals and all those very useful things that end up making a difference at the end.:. So if you had a way to get those things outside of the school, such a personal network or some other way, UNC would also work.

Thank you so much for your insights bb! I don't have personal network so I have to hugely rely on school's resources, in this case, I do feel re-apply is a better option for me. On the other hand, I'll be 30 next year with a little more than 6 years of working experience (I did a master's before full-time job) at the time of enrollment - older than the average, do you think this is sth to worry about (in terms of chances of admission)?

If you got into UNC with a decent scholarship, why don't you try for Tepper/UCLA in R3? I know multiple Asian woman who got into these schools in R3 last year (with scholarship). So, if Tech is what you really want, you can consider putting in that application in R3.
Those schools are not so friendly to international students with test waiver, I'll have much less chance for admission.  And If I get rejected this time, It's going to be more difficult for me to re-apply for next year.

That's not entirely true. I know Asian females at Ross who got in with a test waiver. So, it doesn't hurt trying your chances. Also responding to your query pointed towards BB regarding age, I turned 31 in my second month at Ross. I too had a Masters degree before applying to business schools with 6 and half years of experience. So, I can tell you that age'll not be not an issue for you. If it helps you, the average Asian age here at Ross is around 31, so you'll be right around that age number. I have a dude in my class aged 50. So, trust me, you're fine! :)
